For my Mother in Law who passed away 042608

Lord Don't Make Me Wait

Lord please if You hear me
Don't make me wait
My life has been full
I'm here at the gate.
I'm weary of this world
My work here is done
My family is gathered
Each and every one.

My body is useless
My mind much the same
I've won the race
It's the end of the game.
You know I'm not suffering
But you have the key
So Lord won't you please
Open your gates up to me.

Please let them know
It's my time to leave
It serves them no purpose
To be mournful of me.
It's a time to celebrate
As I leave this world for Thine
To a land of eternal wonder
With new body and mind.

Oh Lord I'm so ready
And they know it is true
If I have to leave them
To be there with You.
That the day will come
When again we shall see
Each other in Heaven
As I sit there with Thee.

So Lord if You hear me
Accept this small plea
Please bless my family
Open Your Gates up for me.

We buried her Monday. It was one of the most beautiful services I have ever attended. The young clergyman, a friend of my stepson, has a great delivery and voice and his message was very soothing. He read my poem and it sounded nothing like I heard it in my head as I was writing it. He also read a eulogy writtem by my wife, and together they have everyone running the gamut of emmotions from laughing to crying. My mother-in-law had dementia for the last ten years and my wife cared for her in our home for most of that time. It was only in the last six months or so that she was beyond her ability to care for her and we had her in a wonderful nursing home where the people loved and care for her deeply. We were with her at the end and while we were laughing at something my stepson said, she left us. She went in her sleep surrounded by the sound of laughter from her family and I can't think of a better way to go. We'll miss her greatly but she is now in a better place.

I don't think anyone could ask for more, surrounded by Love, laughter and family, the things that bring the most comfort in our lives! Be happy for her DDuct. I know God will grace her with the same in heaven.
