3:50 PM, February 14, 1940 identifies me as an Aquarian in Western astrology. Some say I'm pretty bright, others that I'm dumber than what lays in the yard. Both are right in certain respects, but who cares? |

Eastern astrology describes me as a combination of positive metal (sword and shield versus plow and cooking-pot) earth-element cycle, year of the Dragon, month of the Tiger, hour and country (born 1776) of the Monkey. My wife thinks it's far more accurate than the Western/Aquarian description. |

From The Handbook of Chinese Horoscopes, by Theodora Lau, © 1979
Metal Element - pages 18 - 19
People born in the years controlled by the Metal element will be as rigid and resolute in expression as their particular signs will permit. They are guided by strong feelings and will pursue their objectives with intensity and little hesitation. Sustained by their ambitions, they are capable of prolonged effort to get what they want. They are very success-oriented and unwavering in their determination. Whatever consistency and perseverance their native lunar signs contain will be greatly enhanced by the Metal element. Yadda, yadda, yadda.
The Dragon - page 93
I am an unquenchable fire, The center of all energy, The stout heroic heart.
I am truth and light, I hold power and glory in my sway.
My presence Disperses dark clouds.
I have been chosen To tame the fates.
I AM THE DRAGON
The Tiger - page 61
I am the delightful paradox.
All the world is my stage.
I set new trails ablaze; I seek the unattainable, and try the untried.
I dance to life’s music In gay abandon.
Come with me on my carousel rides.
See the myriad of colors, The flickering lights.
All hail me the unparalleled performer.
I AM THE TIGER
The Monkey - page 159
I am the seasoned traveler Of the Labyrinth.
The genius of alacrity, Wizard of the Impossible.
My brilliance is yet unmatched In its originality.
My heart’s filled with potent magic That could cast a hundred spells.
I am put together For mine own pleasure.
I AM THE MONKEY
Those are but a little over four of 314 pages of Eastern astrology (in this book), completely separated from the Western variety and arguably more easily understood and better descriptive. Keeping the Dragons of Eastern astrology from being totally insufferable, however, is the fact that the Dragon is the only fictional animal in the mix - but far too honest to hide the fact (or much of anything else).
