Who's your favorite team and why?

Mine's Virginia Tech in college and has been for a long time. They've had a lot of ups and downs over the years and I started rooting for them in the late sixties. They've had a few really good players over the years in basketball with Dell Curry probably the best known. Their football team has come to prominence during the Beamer years after many years of struggle. They're at the top of their game since joining first the Big East and now the ACC.

As you can probably see I'm not one of those fair weather fans who only root for winners. I count the Redskins, Celtics, and Red Sox on my list of favorites.

My dad actually tried out for the Red Sox back in the forties and got a look a being a pitcher for them. It didn't go anywhere though. They had a team here in our town for a while. Found out today the Fenway Group bought out our local Class A club and will probably make them one of their own in '09 since they currently have a contract with the Rockies through '08.
