tomorrow night,,,, December 12'07
- its Urijah Faber vs Jeff Curran.

the word is out that Faber is the man to beat.    He's been champ of the featherweight division (145lbs for MMA) ever since he's been 3-1 record.    Now he's 19-1 record.    A lot of guys fight with elbows,,, but Faber throws a killer elbow.    He's not looking to knock you out, he's looking to cave your head in.
Faber offers a complete ground clinic to anybody that competes.     good luck Curran, you'll need it.

I saw that Condit guy go again last night.   It was probably a re-run but,,,  WOW!

its bad enough to be on the outside of his reach;  fist and feet.   Submitting him on the ground is proving unsuccesful for any takers.     What I've found alarming about him, maybe the most problematic in his entire arsenal -which is quite well rounded -  is his knee strikes.   Most guys level off about chest range, no higher.    Condit's range is up around the face.    When I saw Condit go to town with knee strikes, the fight was over only in a matter of time,,, short time.

I just watched Kenny Florian vs Joe Lauzan.
sometimes the rules are a bit of a joke, from where I sit.   probably not from where the fighters sit.
Florian was striking Lauzan in the head with his elbow, it opened up Lauzans skin on top of his head.    Florian was reprimanded because the top of the head is an illegal target.

okay,,, rules are rules.    Florian wound up winning by TKO.

Jens Pulver vs Urijah Faber,,,,,, and I do not predict a winner this time.

Former UFC® Lightweight Champion, Jens “Lil Evil?Pulver returns to 145 pounds, a weight at which he has never been beaten, as he looks to defend his legacy against the #1-ranked featherweight in the world ?WEC?Champion “The California Kid,?Urijah Faber. A win for Pulver secures his spot in MMA history. A win for Faber takes him one step closer to becoming the greatest featherweight fighter ever.

both these guys are high octane, should be interesting.

Urijah is 1 MMA fighter that fights successfully and has long hair.    I see he has it tied in a poney tail to the side.

now I ask you, how many guys can get away with that? ? ?       He's won 11 fights in a row,  which havent gone the distance.    At this point, fighters are dropping down in weight to attempt taking him on.

Featherweights: Urijah Faber (21-1) def. Jens Pulver (22-9-1) to retain the WEC featherweight title via unanimous decision.
Judges scores: 50-45, 50-44, 50-44.
Analysis: Faber’s conditioning and recovery ability decided the fight. Faber outboxed Pulver most of the way, but Pulver showed enough power to put Faber in trouble. Pulver hurt Faber in the second round with punches, but Faber’s punches caused Pulver’s right eye to swell up and Faber took advantage of the injury. In the last two rounds, Pulver went on the offensive but it was mainly a battle of survival for him.

who are your favorite MMA fighters ?

I give credit to mostly everybody that dares going into the ring. But some of these guys are just bad news to fight. example:
I definitely like that Carlos Condit. He's bad on the outside, the mid-range striking distance, and has shown excellence in grappling with strangle holds and joint manipulations.

Urijah Faber, back round- wrestling. compliments his abilities with 'stand & bang'. At this point, he shows no competition able to come close.

Diego Sanchez - the first time I saw him, he dominated with grappling/wrestling technique. Going up against a Muey Thai fighter and took him completely out of his element. I realize Diego has lost since then but completely reinvented himself. His last fight I saw him throwing devastating 'stand & bang' technique. Excellence on the ground and toe to toe.

George StPierre - I'd like to see more of him. Excellence in kick boxing,,,, very difficult to time.

Brock Lesner is trying another crack at this.
the thing is,,,, steroid work real good while doing Pretend Wrestling where bad acting and bad script writing determine the results.
no matter,   Lesner should give the real fighter audiences a laugh.

NAHEIM, Calif. - Going into Saturday's Affliction fight card ?billed with characteristic modesty as "the greatest MMA show of All-time" ?Fedor Emelianenko was cast as The Russian. There had been reams of copy citing "Rocky" villain Ivan Drago as his spiritual ancestor.

In fact, there is nothing villainous about Emelianenko: no sneer, no hint of menace, no sign of the sinister or the sadistic. His opponent, Tim Sylvia ?who sports the requisite assortment of tattoos and oddly angled sideburns ?might have gotten work as an extra in the defunct prison series, "Oz." But Emelianenko, with his rounded pinkish face, looked like Friar Tuck in spandex shorts. And that's exactly what makes him so scary.
"I don't think he's human," said Sylvia, a two-time former UFC heavyweight champion.

As it began, the main event at the Honda Center, Emelianenko remained expressionless, his strategy masked by a neutral countenance. At 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, he was giving away seven inches and close to 40 pounds to Sylvia. So what?

Carlos Condit fought the hardest bought I've ever seen him
he went 4 rounds with judo kick boxer -Hiromitsu Miura
Condit won but anybody else wouldve caved way before he took as much punishment as he did.

Former UFC champ Tanner dead at 37

http://sports.yahoo.com/mma/news?slug=ys-mmaweektanner090808&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion Evan Tanner was found dead near Palo Verde, Calif. on Monday. He was 37.

Tanner had trekked into the desert on a journey to “cleanse?himself, according to Douglas Vincitorio of Tanner’s management team. “He went out to the desert to do a ‘cleansing?as he called it. Kind of like ‘Survivorman.’?These short trips were not new to Tanner, said Vincitorio. It is something that he has done numerous times over the years.

“What we were told is that (Sheriff’s officials who found Tanner) believe his motorcycle had run out of gas, so he went to walk out in like 115- to 118-degree heat,?Vincitorio said. “He was miles away from his camp. That’s where the helicopter found him. Right now, they just think that he succumbed to the heat.?/FONT>

I saw Brock Lesner last night.
He didnt turn out to be the joke I thought he'd be.
as matter of fact, he gave his opponent lots of question, unanswerable questions.
by throwing a thrusting knee, attention was drawn downstairs - Lesner then threw a crushing right cross that wouldve destroyed any normal person.     The fight then went to the ground which created its own set of problems.

Lesner vs Couture

this should be a pretty excellent match.

Randy Couture vs Brock Lesner.      Lesner is humongous and his single strikes will keep his opponent thinking.
Lesner hasnt showed much in the way of wrestling skills - ironicly.

and I thought Couture retired himself after a fallout with the WEC president.

and Lesner wins.      Couture says it was much more his size then it was ring rust.
actually, it wouldnt be a bad idea if there was a different weight class for this monster.
