Once a year  You are so lucky. We burn wood and we burn about 8 cords a year costing well over a thousand. We get long lengths and hubby cuts and splits it himself or it would cost a lot more. I like wood heat but I sure don't like the mess it makes!

Pat, we used to burn wood too and I loved it except the mess
but now with a bad back we can not burn wood
we could get a fire wooding permit from the goverment and my hubby cut our wood so it did not cost us anything, but they have stopped that now (of course)

I don't think that is really that bad either but a few years back it was alot cheaper

I use bottled gas [LPG or Propane as you call it] for cooking only. I get a 45 kilo tank which lasts me about 2 years, the gas company estimates when we need a new tank and delivers it accordingly. That costs us less than $80, we just got a new tank in April this year so I don't need another one for a while yet.
We mainly use wood for our heating and we went through about 3 ton last winter. I bought 4 ton but we have leftovers!  We use ironbark wood which burns much slower and hotter. That cost us $75 a ton split and delivered if we get more than 1 ton. We also have 3 hp split system RC AC [reverse cycle air conditioning] so we have the best of both worlds.
I am very fond of my comfort and Dennis does tend to spoil me a bit, lol.

Tell me Bucket, just how much is a CORD??  I have never heard of a CORD. It sounds like a lot and OMG, costing you a thousand dollars a year!!!  I cannot imagine paying that much for wood to just go up in smoke.

What would we do without Google, lol???  I learned something today and that has to be a good thing, lmao.
I Googled "a cord of wood in a pick-up" and it would appear that what you call a pick-up we call a Ute [or utility] we can get a half ton of wood [cut & split] into the back of our Courier ute but we buy bulk from a dealer.
Dennis being the mathamatical genius in our family, lol equates 1 cord to about 4 ton. Which is what we got last winter and cost us about $300.That is just for heating however we have a shorter winter to you.  Our winter in Qld is really only about 6 weeks. Would you believe I was walking around in shorts and T shirt in the middle of winter last year.
Dennis reckons you should all pack up and move to sunny Qld. As the tourism saying goes here in Qld "Beautiful one day, perfect the next."

Bulk firewood available loose for pickup or on pallets wrapped with stretch wrap in 1/4 cord packages(32 cu. ft.)

A cord of wood is equal to 128 cu. ft.  Here is two examples.
