Rhino webcam   <<<<<< click here.
The baby was born Mon 5th March at 8pm.

Sita, a one-tonne black rhino, is due to give birth this month at Paignton Zoo, in Devon, where cameras are being trained on her paddock 24 hours a day.

The zoo said there was no existing footage of a black rhino being born in a zoo anywhere in the world.

The birth, the zoo's first rhino calf, is part of its on-going endangered species programme.

Philip Knowling - Paignton Zoo
On behalf of Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, I’d like to say thank you to everyone who has been following the rhino cam project over the last few months.

At times it seemed like a long wait – but I’m sure you’ll agree it was worth it! Thanks to everyone who has watched the web cam, communicated via the message board or sent e-mails, cards and letters to the Zoo. The project was more successful than we could ever have hoped – we are delighted that Sita’s story has caught the imagination of so many people.

I think the project has shown the hard work and dedication of Paignton Zoo keeping staff, the ups and downs of conservation breeding programmes and the sheer wonder of animals such as the black rhino. Thank you to the BBC for doing an amazing job under sometimes difficult conditions. The cameras will come down soon – I hope you can all get used to life without them!
