Ahoy

That's a great idea Leanna to explain all the games.  I figured I'd start the thread with one of my favorites (hard to choose since they are all so much fun)...  LUCKY DIP  I'm getting my fingers limbered up to snatch up those winning tickets.

Thanks, Joy, for the lead-in.

Lucky Dip & It’s a Sure Thing -  A fun activity for attendees to win a variety of prizes and a fundraising activity for the event.

Lucky Dip

o       Lucky Dip is a version of the English game, Tomboli, where prizes have numbers that match tickets numbers in a bucket that people buy the opportunity to draw, They have a chance of winning if they drawn a ticket number that matches a prize.

o       HOP will sell the “right to draw?tickets at the HOP Sales Table that will be in the Pre-Function area right outside the Ballroom doors. The tickets sell for $2 per ticket or 6 tickets for $10.

o       The odds of winning are based on the number of prices for the number of tickets. HOP has enough tickets so that we have one prize for every 3 tickets in the bucket to be drawn. So you have a one in three chance of winning with each of your draws.

o       There are usually between 500 to 600 prizes that is comprised of donations from HBC, Martin Perry, collectors who are attending and dealers (attending and not attending.) The donations are HK figurines and other items that are donated. We may group a couple of lesser valued items so that all prizes are valued at $25 or greater. The majority are HK figurines. Interspersed among the prizes are higher valued items (over $150) to keep up the excitement during the game.

o       Lucky Dip scheduled for the Friday general session.

It’s a Sure Thing

o       "It’s A Sure Thing" resulted from having some prizes left over after the scheduled time for Lucky Dip during the Seattle event. So the next day, we increased the price per draw to $5, but we removed all losing tickets. That guarantees that you are a winner.

o       It's A Sure Thing will be held during the general session on Saturday morning with the Paint Your Own and the Swap 'n Sell.

We hope you enjoy these activities and we know from experience that you will win a LOT of prizes. So we decided to add a new feature to this year's event. It is the "Lucky Dip Exchange".

Lucky Dip Exchange

This activity will take place on Saturday afternoon after the "It's A Sure Thing" is held in the morning. You can bring items that you won previously or just extras that you have and exchange them with other collectors. The deals will be strictly between the individuals and HOP will have no part in the exchange.

However we do not want a monetary exchange to occur as that is the basis of the Swap 'n Sell in which this exchange should not compete.

Hi  all,
I liked the lucky dip last year and am looking forward to it again.
I got several nice pieces and only had to trade a couple of them.
It won't be long til we will be walking the plank and riding the high seas into HK Pirates Cove.
Where R those Doubloons??

Arr me matey's,

?

Is it better to try the lucky dip several times with time spaces between the attempts to get lucky OR is it better to plunk all your money down at 1 time & see if you get lucky dipping in the treasure well.

What say ye me matey's.

You can only do so much per turn then get back in line so everyone gets a chance at winning some prizes in Lucky Dip.

Thank you, Kay, for bringing up another aspect of the Lucky Dip game. The Lucky Dip is one of the fundraising activities we have to help to offset the costs of the event and also keep the registration fees lower. This highly popular game was introduced to our collectors at Claire de Lune in 2000.

Hundreds of prizes will be available for you to win with the draw of a ticket. As I mentioned, your changes of winning are approximately one-in-three.

In order to assist us in obtaining the number of prizes needed, we are looking for donations from our attendees. We already have the support of Harmony Ball Company as well as dealers, and other sources. All donors are recognized in the Event Program.

If you would like to donate items for the Lucky Dip or other prizes, e-mail [email protected] or call Leanna Barron at 914-420-0912. Donations must be shipped to:

Iris Harbert
3752 Old Keystone Road
Tarpon Springs, FL 34688

We need all donations as early as possible so that we can get out Programs printed. They need to arrive no later than January 31, 2008. Any donations arriving after that date cannot be guaranteed to be recognized in the Event Program.

Please support the event with your donations and we welcome starting now. If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected]

Ahoy All

I'm bumping this up for the newbies.  The last convention was my first.

Lucky Dip:  Buy tickets and you match to donations
Sure thing:  buy tickets and everyone is a winner
Paint Your Own:  get a resin piece in your registration package that you paint (paints & brushes provided) and put up to be judged

Those were 3 of my favorite activities.

I'm really pleased to see that we have a lucky dip exchange table. That way, I can be sure that any prizes that I win (but don't need) can find good homes.
