As HK collectors, we share many things in addition to our joy of the marble dust figurines.  HOP is sponsoring the creation of our very own "Friends of HK" cookbook.

Thanks to the efforts of Sue Donilon the project is underway.  Plans are for the book to be a three-ring binder (unanimous decision from everyone queried) and ready for the event in Orlando.  So please support Sue in this charity project and get involved!  Here is Sue's request:

Come join the fun in creating a one-of-a-kind international cookbook created by HK collectors and friends.  With Harmony Kingdom's blessings, HOP is going to gather up all of our favorite recipes and produce a wonderful HK Cookbook.

Let me introduce myself. I am Sue Donilon who loves cats, HK and cookbooks.  My project for HOP this year is the production of a cookbook to be sold as a charity fundraiser.  I used to spend time hunting for which book that favorite recipe was in, and then my subdivision home improvement club decided to have a fundraiser.  They asked for recipes.  I decided to send mine in with my name AND the family member or friend that most belonged to that recipe.  Example: Sue Donilon's Mamma and Sue Donilon's Aunt Sudie, etc.  When the cookbooks arrived, I purchased one for each family household, highlighted all the family recipes, and gave them as Christmas gifts.  Well, all of these households have divided and at the last family gathering they wanted to know when the club was going to do it again because they needed more copies and had more recipes to add.  So that is why I have proposed this fundrasier to HOP.

So far everyone seems to love the idea making it time for you to get into the picture.  You can help HOP make the "Friends of Harmony Kingdom" recipe book a great success by gathering up those recipes.  Get your family and friends to participate as well so that they can see their favorites in print.  Every book sold will help a charity selected by HOP.

There are many sections in the cookbook that need recipes. So check on your favorite drink recipe or that salad that wows everyone. In addition to meats, casseroles, cakes and pies, please give us your recipe for the best baked beans in town or that soup that warms your tummy.

Why don't you all start making our mouth water by telling us about the recipes you are planning to submit?  However we don't want the actual recipe here on the Message Board or else people won't be buying the book. Just whet their appetites!

So dig out your favorites, send them to us at [email protected] .  If you have any questions, contact us by email or call me at 423-842-7551.   Let's make a great memory!

Sue Donilon

One of the reason's I posted to add pet recipes is that at one of the ICE events we were talking to a fellow Harmony collector and at the time we had Trump the Airedale who was suffering from arthritis and this wonderful person shared a recipe with us that helped Trump's condition!
Mike your Mitzie's meal of rice and hamburger is exactly what Bruno eats when his stomach is off. Did your Mom serve it to her rare or cooked? We normally feed Bru ground chicken wings and kibble but he loves raw chop meat but when he is not up to snuff I boil it.

When I was growing up the Senior Citizens didn't get much in the way of pensions and they often had to eat Dog Food, but some of it was made with horse meat and caused alot of people to be ill. I think we need to just do a People Cookbook this time and think about another cookbook later on for all the animal lovers.

... I don't see anything wrong with having a section in the back indexed "pet recipes" like it's been said, a lot of us are animal lovers and it would be all natural I'm assuming, probably even fit for human consumption, I wouldn't feed my cats anything but. If I wouldn't eat it, I wouldn't feed it to them.

Sue and I just got off the phone discussing the cookbook. The last section in the cookbook is called "This & That" for recipes that don't fit in the other categories. Pet recipies can certainly go in that section.

However we are suggesting that the name of the recipe be prefixed with "For Pets Only" so that others won't mistake a good sounding recipe for one to be used for humans. I'm not saying that it couldn't be used for some humans, but we just want to make sure that it doesn't happen by mistake.

So send in those pet recipes as well.

Just a reminder - don't forget to send in your recipes for the HOP cookbook.  Larry just wrote down his curried lamb meatball stir fry and lumberjack pancakes recipes.   We had the pancakes with apples for breakfast this morning.  They were sooo good!

I just added a few recipes today...and was wondering if it was okay to give them the way they were handed down to me? What I mean by this is that it is not always in cups or tbsp or teaspoon?

Lynda,

We welcome recipes in any form - even the old-fashioned way. I entered the way my grandmother and mother made biscuits and dumplings which starts with the big bowl that is always filled with flour.

By the way, I noticed your baked version of the Split Pea soup. Can you tell me what temperature to use for the baking time?

Johnia the temperature for the split pea/lentil soup recipe is 350degress F. I started to add slow cooker recipes yesterday (Braised Tomatoe Spareribs) but will definitely
add some more today. The slow cooker is one of my favorites!

Got my first receipe added on line.  Thank you to HOP for the instruction sheet included with the mail out packet.  Now to finish with all the receipes stacked beside my computer.  I am a goings to be quite busy typing my poor little fingers to the bone--I may be easy to spot in the pirate line up--I'll be the one with bony fingers.

THANKS so much.

Keep up the work and we are still looking for more.

Remember we need your recipes sent to [email protected]
