Sorry Folks, I said I was new at this. Please reply to the Event Board once I get this posted there. ---Josie Hi everyone, I am just learning how to use a message board so this will be posted on both the committee and the event boards. For the Orlando Convention we will be once again issuing trading cards. I am working on this now. I could use your input. This time we wish to use the trading cards as a learning tool so we will be featuring different Harmony Kingdom Artists and their work. To start, I could use everyone's input on which artists to showcase. Which artists are your picks. Peter, of course, is a given so who else would YOU select. Once we have the field narrowed we will once again illicit your help in picking pieces to showcase as Leanna has done in the past. So, put on your creative thinking caps and give me you best choices. Feel free to tell us in your choices why they are your favorites. Please post here. Josie |

I really think that his year would be a great one to bring together lots of the Disney pieces since the event does take place in the Diney theme park. In previous years when Leanna and I organized these decks we had (of course based on Leanna's directions) certain themes ie.elusives etc. to work with and have pretty much covered mosr of the series...But maybe and here again LB would have to orchestrate some magic, maybe we could get Robert King to autograph a few of the joker cards and since they are shrink wrapped keep everyone is suspence! You could also include the event pieces and perhaps as Mike noted some of the new artists that are creating some interesting works. Hope this helps. Lynda |

Josie, Will the artist correspond to one of the suits of cards in a deck? Such as Peter=diamonds, David=Spades, etc. If so, there will be four suits and the top four artists will be included, right? Other artists could be included as "wild cards". My top four picks would be: Peter David Monique Adam Thanks, Vanda |

I would suggest that we do not shut the door on the idea of using the Disney pieces since the artist thing has been done for the past three yeatrs, and why not do something a little different using the suits: diamonds, spades, hearts and clubs as different categories for Dianey pieces. Though I would have to think out the Alice in Wonderland since that particulat category would fit in to any of the suits!!!!! Lynda |

Vanda, We used the Suits idea last year because we were doing a deck of cards to go with the Casino night theme. The year before, I did a groupings of dogs, cats, event pieces, etc. That was the first year for the trading cards. Josie volunteered to do the trading cards for HOP this year. Since she is a newer collector, she believes that there are a number of people attending who do not know all the details intimately like old timers. So she wants to use the trading cards as a learning experience. She wants to put the artist on one side of the card and the figurine on the other. So when you finish getting a full deck, you might have 10 cards for each of the artists selected. There may be 4 or 5 or 6 artists chosen. Josie is giving you guys the chance to select the artists. To help her make the selection, sho would like you to tell her what you like most about each of the artists you suggest. For example the tie-in of the Disney pieces, our theme and our location for including Robert King is a good example. So everyone, please give Josie reasons why your choices should be included in the list of artists. Leanna |

Hi All If you are not going to use a deck of cards we would need to know how many cards make a complete deck then. With the deck of cards used we at least knew that there was the 13 cards of each suit and then the jokers. If you are going in a different direction this year then please let us know how many cards make a complete deck. Also if they could be a heavier card stock that would be appreciated. I would like to see Peter, David Lawrence, Adam Binder & Monique. I think the idea of using event pieces is great. How about club pieces too. I would like to see tibits of their inspiration behind some of the creations of the pieces. I've been collecting HK (mostly cat pieces) for about 10 years but have no idea who the artist are (on a personal level). Last year was my first convention and chance to meet the HK folks. Joy |

So much chatter, such a good sign... I think the best method, rather than going with the pack of cards as that would obviously not work out to our (collectors) best advantage is that we use the Happy Families type of deck. This would allow us to have as many Families; as in Artists as we want and as long as the cards showed how many cards were in the Family (1/4 or 6/19) uniformity would not matter. Although it would probably be better to have say, seven Families with 10 cards per Family. That would allow us to have the most prolific Artists in their own Family and we could then bunch together some of the lesser known Artists (who have not produced that many pieces so that their work receives attention) and a Family of Disney as well. As an idea of how this would work:- Peter Calvesbert 10 David Lawrence 10 Monique Baldwin 10 Adam Binder 10 Sherman Dracket 10 Disney 10 (to include Robert King and the other 6 known artists) Supporting Artists 10: Mel Heald, Mark Rickets, David Winter, Ann Richmond, Julia Bharucha and Neil Eyre Personally I think we should give some well deserved publicity to the lesser known Artists who have contributed to our World of Harmony Kingdom. We probably all know how good Peter, David, Adam and Monique are so how about showcasing some of the others as well. Bit of a long spiel this but it could help or produce a brilliant idea from someone else. Hannah |

So much great chatter, so many great ideas. In the planning of these cards, it has been thought that between 60 and 70 would be the deack size. Probably 6 to 7 artists would be best. I love the disney tie in. This deck would always be associated with this event then. Each years deck should be unique. As Leanna said I opened the idea of this being a learning experience for newer collectors, such as myself and I am bringing all the new gal on the block excitement to this project. I have been looking up Robert King's work and feel he should be included. I will contact LB about the possibility of getting some signed for the event. That would be something special, but I don't know yet how all those things work. What I would like to include with the artist is as Hannah suggested some of his bio that would be of interest to collectors. Also maybe some of our favorite pieces would be fun to see on the cards. Keep the great ideas flowing in, please. |

I like the family of cards concept. Any other opinions on this? It seems to fit into the card totals I was thinking of as well as the ability to showcase a good variety of artists and their works. |

I was wondering if there was any thought given to producing and selling the deck from the previous year as was done in Phoenix with the one produced in Seattle. I am sure people would like to have a "fresh" mint deck esp since it was a regular playing deck of cards with 4 suits.. Just a thought...SAM... |

Of course, I'd like to see David Lawrence featured this year, but I'd also like to see Sherman Drackett's work highlighted. We don't hear much about him, but he's a nice guy and I've liked a lot of his work. Mar |

I would love as all know to see the Robert King series but there are also the artists that we know so little about. I also thought that it would be kidda cool(kewl) to have some feedback on the cards as to the artists reasons for creating these particular pieces and side commentary. This would really help to personalize the decks. The problem with doing decks of cards for Orlando that we used from the previous events is that Leanna would have to again reprint the decks and have them cut and shrink wrapped and this in itself is a feat all unto itself. Lynda PS-If ther is a call for it I am sure that it could be done,,,,,,,, |

Did anyone consider with the trading cards to throw in a few actual pirate cards I for one love reading pirates history of legendary pirates like Henry Morgan and Edward Teach(black beard) there are so many more great ones including some very interesting female pirates dont get me wrong I realize this is a harmony kingdom event but I think people would be interested to learn some fun facts since the event is inspired by pirates!! I have a ton of books on pirates history any questions are welcome!! I told everyone i had an obsession with pirates and I meant it LOL!!! |

Is this discussion over? I haven't been to the site until today, for various reasons. If not over, I would like to at least a few cards on Martin Perry, for his unique vision. |
