I didn't have the heart after reading the funny thing about the dogs and cats....LOL.
Adoption day tragedy
I sorry Dear Friends that I haven't been around, but I have been so very depressed that I went off my diet for two days.
We had an adoption day for the animal rescue, one of our little kittens, Einstein went to the adoption. I felt that he was a little to small but he was an eight week kitten the runt of the litter. We have a vet who works with us and does all of the spaying and neutering. He was deemed healthy for the adoption.
This lady (AN ADULT!!!!!) came over to look over our kittens. She clamed that she raised cats. She wanted to hold Einstein and immediately went into blasting us with how little he was and that we weren't feeding him the right food and that he couldn't have been an eight week kitten, and the whole time she was shaking him!
Both Allison and myself are guilty of not taking him away from her, but we were trying to not make a scene at a public building, so we could go back for more adoptions was in the back of our minds. Little Einstein was a playful and healthy kitten when I first saw him for the day, and I decided to take him home to foster along with another kitten. When she handed him back and I put him in the cage he moved more slowly then he had that morning and was stumbling around. As the day went on he got more slow and lathargecic (can't spell). I took him and another kitten home for the day. Einstein just kept getting wores. I finially took him to the rescue ranch and had Sammi and her hubby look him over. Her hubby is an EMT. I know thats for humans, but alot of the things that affect humans affect aniamls the same way. He went down hill fast going into shock and all but died in my arms. Sammi wouldn't let me hold him. She said it was for the best and sent me home. It turned out that Einstein died of shaken baby syndrone. Every one at the store where we did the adoption cried for little Einstein and the manager has taken the description of the woman and had it posted in all of the pet stores in the county.
Now lets face it, no adoption ageny unless it is total run and funded by the state can afford to handle the amount of animals that come through any county rescue unit, and ours is no exception. What funds aren't provided to us from grants, which we don't get alot of, comes from fund raiser like our Bow Wow Meow Luau, and the golf tournement. We also have a rescue ranch but even that is over flowing with kittens, cats, dogs, and puppies.
I am doing better and Olie watched over me all weekend. I guess he was really concerned because usually when I bring new little kittens into the house he wants no part of them and tends to stay outside and runs away if I try to grab him. Olie will play with older kittens. I guess he thinks he's the only one who can teach them how to play right.
I'm going to take the next couple of days and just crash, but I should be back by then.
A very humbled puma,
DK
