Taheebo
Taheebo is a powerful strengthener of the Immune-system. It fights
viral infection and has shown to be effective for cancer.
USES: Antiviral, immune-enhancing.
A.K.A.: Pau D'Arco
DOSAGE: Boil two tablespoons of bark at a medium setting for 20
minutes in half a liter of water; drink half a cup 6 times daily.

Tansy
Tansy is useful for dyspepsia, jaundice, hysteria and nervous
complaints. However it is poisonous in large dosages. An overdose may
be fatal. Do not exceed 8 drops of tincture or a teaspoon for tea or
infusion.
USES: Anthelmintic, diaphoretic, emetic, emmenagogue, stimulant,
tonic
A.K.A.: Bitter buttons, Parsley fern.
DOSAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED Tarragon
Tarragon is used for indigestion and to stimulate the kidneys. Some
use it for insomnia.
USES: Appetizer, diuretic, emmenagogue, hypnotic, stomachic.
A.K.A.: Estrogen
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 4 times
daily. Tea Tree Oil
Tea Tree Oil is famous for its antiseptic properties. It works on
bacteria, fungi and virus infections. It is mostly used on the skin
and for gingivitis. This oil should only be used externally.
USES: Antiseptic, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, antifungal.
DOSAGE: Use oil externally as directed. Thornapple
Thornapple fights spasms and pain. A high dosage is very dangerous
and has killed people! Use only with caution or not at all when
unfamiliar with this substance! First signs of poisoning are usually
dry lips and nausea (Contact poison center). Rolled up into
cigarettes, Thornapple has brought relief in cases of asthma. When
smoked an overdosage is normally not possible. Thornapple has also
been used as a narcotic but offers more risks than enjoyment.
USES: Anodyne, antispasmodic, hypnotic, narcotic.
A.K.A.: Jimson Weed, Devils apple, Devils trumpet, Mad apple,
Stramonium, Nightshade.
DOSAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED: A third of a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling
water; 3 times daily. Thuja
Thuja is used as a counter irritant for rheumatism and muscular
problems. Externally it can be used on warts and skin problems. Tea
of the inner bark was used to promote menstruation and for headaches.
Warning: Large amounts taken internally have led to serious
poisonings.
USES: Diaphoretic, emmenagogue
A.K.A.: Tree of Life, White cedar, Yellow cedar
DOSAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED. Thyme
Thyme has Antiseptic and Tonic properties. It is good for digestion
and for throat and lung problems including: Bronchitis, cough,
congestion, whooping cough, mouth and throat infections and to
strengthen the nerves. Some have used Thyme for fungal infections.
Two related species: Garden Thyme, Mother of Thyme, Wild Thyme
USES: Anthelmintic, antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic,
expectorant, sedative, rubefacient, tonic.
A.K.A.: Garden Thyme
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily.
Tomato
Tomatoes contain Saponins, Histamine, and Vit. C and Carotin. Newer
research has shown that Tomatoes contain a substance that might
prevent specifically lung cancer. Low levels of Lycopene have
consistently been found in lung cancer patients. Check in "Best Foods"
DOSAGE: Use as food; 2 to 3 tomatoes daily. Toothache Plant
Toothache Plant is an Antibiotic, which is useful for candida
infection. Leaves have been used for toothaches.
USES: Anti-fungal Tormentil
Tormentil is excellent for stopping any kind of bleeding. It is used
for enteritis, diarrhea and for sore throat.
USES: Antiphlogistic, antiseptic, astringent, hemostatic.
A.K.A.: Upright septfoil
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily.
Trefoil
Trefoil brings down fever. It has some tonic properties and may be
useful for migraine and indigestion.
USES: Cathartic, fever, tonic.
A.K.A.: Bogbean, Buck bean, Bean trefoil, Marsh trefoil, Water
shamrock
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. It
might be useful to let the tea soak for a few hours before drinking.
Turmeric
Turmeric, as a spice, aids digestion. Even so it is an excellent
antibiotic it will rather strengthen the intestinal flora. In
combination with Gravelroot ligaments and tendons are made more
flexible. New evidence suggests that Turmeric has anti-cancer
properties. Same as Curcuma longa. For strong inflammations and
cancer use Curcumin in capsules as directed. Curcumin is the yellow
extract of turmeric, which has the anti-inflammatory properties. For
better results take equal amounts of Bromelain which is also a strong
anti-inflammatory.
USES: Antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, digestive.
DOSAGE: For strong inflammations and cancer use Curcumin in capsules
as directed. Turtlehead
Turtlehead, also called Balmony, is a general tonic used for
debility, indigestion, constipation, piles and worms. Early settlers
used Turtlehead for rejuvenation. On the chosen day only a spoonful
of the fresh juice of the herb would be taken and up to four days
after they would observe a strict diet.
USES: Anthelmintic, aperient, cholagogue, rejuvenative, stimulant,
tonic.
A.K.A.: Balmony, Turtlebloom, Snakehead.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. Valerian
Valerian is one of the best known Nervine and its main use is to calm
all kinds of nervous excitement and spasms. It also strengthens the
stomach. Warning: Some people have side-effects and do not tolerate
it as well as others.
USES: Antispasmodic, calmative, carminative, hypnotic, nervine,
stomachic.
A.K.A.: Wild valerian, German valerian, English valerian
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times
daily Vervain
Vervain may be used as a mild sedative and for afflictions like:
Whooping cough, dropsy, jaundice, and kidney problems. Vervain is
said to be an aphrodisiac for women.
USES: Astringent, diuretic, emmenagogue, galactagogue, stimulant,
tonic, vulnerary.
A.K.A.: Enchanters plant, Holy herb, European vervain
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 9 times
daily. Violet
Violet should be used in combination with other herbs for ulcers,
tumors and cancers. Violet may also be part of a cough formula and is
used for colds and bronchitis. Violet has antiseptic properties and
is an effective expectorant.
USES: Diaphoretic, emetic, expectorant, laxative.
A.K.A.: Sweet violet
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 9 times daily.
Virginia Snakeroot
Virginia Snakeroot, as the name implies, has been used to treat snake
bites. Virginia Snakeroot can be used to break a fever by starting
perspiration. It takes minor pains and spasms and is useful as a
tonic for the nerves and the heart. The root increases circulation.
USES: Anodyne, antispasmodic, appetizer, diaphoretic, digestive,
nervine, stimulant, tonic
A.K.A.: Snakeweed, Texas snakeroot, Pelican flower
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times
daily. Wahoo
Wahoo is a useful expectorant for coughs and is an excellent tonic
for the liver, pancreas and spleen.
USES: Alternative, cardiac, cholagogue, diuretic, expectorant,
laxative, tonic.
A.K.A.: Indian Arrowroot, Burning bush, Bitter Ash.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily.
Watercress
Watercress is a good tonic with blood purifying properties. It is
said to strengthen the heart, which is probably due to its content of
Vit. E. Watercress contains many vitamins and minerals. Its content
of Iodine makes it useful for the thyroid. Nasturtium is also a good
tonic for liver and kidneys and to expel kidney stones. Watercress is
good for the stomach but the fresh juice may lead to irritations.
USES: Diuretic, expectorant, purgative, stimulant, stomachic.
A.K.A.: Tall nasturtium, Scurvy grass. White Oak
White Oak fights infections, increases circulation and stops
bleedings. Its main use is for varicose veins, hemorrhoids, pinworms,
strep throat, and bleedings.
USES: Astringent, tonic.
A.K.A.: Oak
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. White
Pine
White Pine is part of cough medicine. As an excellent expectorant,
White Pine is used for coughs, throat and lung problems.
USES: Expectorant
A.K.A.: Deal pine, Soft pine
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times
daily.White Pond Lily
White Pond Lily has tumor healing properties. The root is useful for
all bleedings, wounds, diarrhea, gastritis, intestinal complaints,
scrofula, lung problems, canker and sore mouth and throat. Externally
it can be used for wounds and bruises. See Lotus for similar
properties and other uses.
USES: Antiseptic, astringent, demulcent.
A.K.A.: Water lily, White water lily Wild Cherry
Wild Cherry is mainly used as an expectorant but it also aids
digestion.
USES: Alternative, antispasmodic, astringent, expectorant
DOSAGE: Powder: 500 mg 3 times daily. Wild Ginger
Wild Ginger might be useful at the onset of a cold as it promotes
perspiration. It is a stimulant and a good tonic. It brings relief in
case of gas and spasms. The powder has been used to induce sneezing.
Wilder Ginger is the same as Kanadische Haselwurzel
USES: Carminative, diaphoretic, expectorant, irritant.
A.K.A.: Black snakeweed, Canada snakeroot, False cotsfoot
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 3 times
daily. Wild Hyssop
Wild Hyssop relieves gas and promotes perspiration. It has some of
the same properties as the mints.
USES: Antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, stimulant.
A.K.A.: Prairie hyssop
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. Wild
Indigo
Wild Indigo is studied as a possible immune booster. It has
antiseptic, stimulant but also purgative properties. It has been used
for ulcerations, colitis, dysentery and all septic conditions.
USES: Antiseptic, astringent, emetic, purgative, stimulant.
A.K.A.: American Indigo, Yellow Indigo, False Indigo
DOSAGE: A third of a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times
daily. Wild Quinine
Wild Quinine may have immune-enhancing qualities and is sometimes
used for the same purpose as Echinacea. It is also used for bladder-
and kidney problems. This is one of the various plants that had been
used for gonorrhea before the use of modern antibiotics.
USES: Antibiotic, diuretic, Immune-enhancing. Wild Strawberry
Strawberry leaves will have an effect on certain kinds of eczema
because of its blood purifying properties. Strawberry leaves are also
effective for diarrhea, dysentery and other intestinal problems.
USES: Astringent, diuretic, tonic.
A.K.A.: Wood strawberry
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 12 times daily.
Willow Herb
Willow Herb is specific for inflammation and enlargement of the
prostate. Also for bladder and kidney problems. This herb is praised
in Maria Treben's 'Health From God's Garden.' Very easy to grow from
seed. Any part of the plant may be used.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. Willow
Tree
Willow Bark played an important role in the development of Aspirin,
ASA etc. It is still used for minor pains, fever, bacterial infection
and rheumatism. Related species with properties similar to White
Willow: White Willow, Black Willow, Purple Willow, Goat Willow
USES: Anodyne, antiseptic, astringent, diaphoretic, diuretic, fever,
tonic.
A.K.A.: White Willow
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 2 cups of boiling water, simmer until down to
1 cup; 1 cup daily. Winter Cherry
Ashwagandha, or Winter Cherry, is a first class tonic from India. It
is used for debility, aging, nervous exhaustion, memory problems,
anemia, fatigue and weak eyes. Yogis appreciate its Sattvic
qualities; it promotes clear thinking. Ashwagandha rejuvenates
muscles and marrow.
USES: Tonic, rejuvenative, aphrodisiac, nervine, sedative,
astringent.
A.K.A.: Indian Ginseng
DOSAGE: 300 mg 3 times daily Wintergreen
Wintergreen is helpful with bladder problems including gravel and
bleeding. It is also used as a gargle for cankers and sore throat.
Wintergreen contains Arbutin, which works as a disinfectant for the
urinary system. It also contains Salicin which is a minor pain killer
and useful for gout, rheumatism and bacterial infections.
USES: Analgesic, astringent, carminative, diuretic, stimulant.
A.K.A.: Deerberry, Checkerberry, Wax cluster, Partridge berry.
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 3 times
daily. Witch Hazel
Witch Hazel stops bleedings, excessive menstruation and is good for
hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Witch Hazel can also be used as a
gargle and to stop any kind of bleeding.
USES: Astringent, hemostatic, sedative, tonic.
A.K.A.: Hazel nut, Spotted alder, Tobacco wood, Winterbloom.
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 3 times
daily. Wood Betony
Wood Betony strengthens the liver, spleen, intestines and the nerves.
It has mild sedating properties. There are five species of Stachy
growing in the States. In Europe, Betony has been used in the past
against evil spirits. Also see Betony.
USES: Nervine, tonic.
A.K.A.: Bishopswort
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times daily.
Wood Sorrel
Wood Sorrel may be useful for mild liver and digestive problems. It
eases mild pains. Newer sources recommend it for cancer of the
stomach.
USES: Anodyne, diuretic, emmenagogue, irritant, stomachic.
A.K.A.: Common sorrel, Shamrock, White sorrel, Sour trefoil.
DOSAGE: Use as food. Woodruff
Woodruff is useful for migraines, nervousness and to calm the
stomach. Woodruff is also good for the liver and the heart. It is
used for jaundice, stomach trouble, and kidney problems. Warning:
Large amounts have caused negative side-effects!
USES: Antispasmodic, calmative, cardiac, diaphoretic, diuretic.
A.K.A.: Master of the Wood, Sweet Woodruff, and Woodward.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 3 times daily.
Woollygrass
Woollygrass stops any kind of bleeding. If applied directly it may
suppress bruises.
USES: Antibacterial, diuretic, hemostatic. Wormseed
Wormseed expels worms (roundworms, hookworms and other intestinal
parasites). It may also be used for uterine colic and hysteria.
Warning: In large amounts this plant may be dangerous.
USES: Anthelmintic.
A.K.A.: Feather geranium, Goosefoot, Jesuit tea.
DOSAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED Wormwood
Wormwood, as the name implies, is used to fight worms of all kinds.
It helps to regulate digestion, the liver and the stomach. Warning:
Prolonged use is NOT RECOMMENDED and the oil should be avoided
because it is poisonous.
USES: Anthelmintic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, carminative,
cholagogue, fever, stimulant, stomachic.
A.K.A.: Absinthe
DOSAGE: A third of a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 9
times daily. Yam, Wild
Wild Yam is a general tonic and has been used for liver problems,
arthritis, asthma, spasms and to tonify the glands. Wild Yam contains
dehydroepiandrosterone, or DHEA, known as the youth hormone. DHEA is
a precursor in the production of Estrogen and Testosterone. DHEA has
been suggested for a number of diseases. DHEA blood levels continue
to drop with increasing age.
USES: Antispasmodic, diaphoretic, diuretic, expectorant.
A.K.A.: China root, Colic root, Rheumatism root, Yuma
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. Yarrow
Yarrow stimulates the glands and the production of red blood cells in
the bone marrow. It is used to build and clean the blood. Yarrow has
a positive influence on the liver, stomach and Intestines. Yarrow can
be used to stop any kind of bleeding and has great value as a general
tonic.
USES: Antispasmodic, astringent, carminative, cholagogue,
diaphoretic, hemostatic, tonic.
A.K.A.: Milfoil, Woundwort, Nosebleed.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times daily.
Yellow Dock
Yellow Dock is a great general tonic but particularly valuable for
the liver. It is high in iron and used for anemia where iron
deficiency is the cause. It is also in use to clean the gallbladder,
the lymph system and the blood.
USES: Astringent, cholagogue, laxative, tonic.
A.K.A.: Curled dock, Narrow dock, Sour dock, Rumex
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times daily.
Yellow Jasmine
Yellow Jasmine has strong sedative properties. It is useful for
nervousness, neuralgia and cramps. Yellow Jasmine is also good for
inflammation anywhere in the intestines. Warning: Parts of this plant
are poisonous. Treatment is not well tolerated by some.
USES: Nervine, sedative.
A.K.A.: Gelsemin, Yellow Jessamine, Woodbine.
DOSAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED. Yerba Santa
Yerba Santa is mainly used for lung congestion and hay fever, all
kinds of lung problems, coughs, bronchitis, asthma, laryngitis,
rheumatism, tuberculosis, fever, and as a blood purifier. Externally
is can be used for wounds and bruises.
USES: Antispasmodic, expectorant, fever, tonic.
A.K.A.: Mountain balm, Holy herb, Bearsweed.
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 3 times
daily. Yucca
Yucca has found to be useful for arthritis and rheumatism. Yucca
contains steroid saponins, which should be very useful for the
adrenal glands and their production of Cortisone.
