Daisy
English Daisy is used for all kinds of chest and intestinal problems.
Daisy is an expectorant and useful for skin and liver diseases. The

Damiana
Damiana is a known aphrodisiac, but it is also a general tonic for
weakness and exhaustion. There are reports that it has also been used
for Parkinson's. Damiana is commonly used as an aphrodisiac and
stimulant.
USES: Laxative, stimulant, tonic.
A.K.A.: Mexican damiana
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily.

Dandelion
Dandelion is the chief remedy for the gallbladder. It increases the
flow of bile and helps to detoxify the liver.
USES: Aperient, cholagogue, diuretic, stomachic, tonic.
A.K.A.: Blowball, Wild endive
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times daily.

Dead Nettle
Dead nettle, or Blind nettle, is listed as antispasmodic, astringent,
expectorant, and styptic. The plant has been used for leucorrhea, and
to regulate menstrual irregularities. It is also useful for stomach
and intestinal problems.
USES: Antispasmodic, astringent, expectorant, styptic.
A.K.A.: Blind nettle, Stingless nettles, White archangel, White
nettle.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times daily.

Devils Claw
Devils Claw is used to treat Arthritis and Rheumatism. It works as an
anti-inflammatory and is also used for arteriosclerosis, diabetes, to
cleanse blood vessels and as a tonic for liver, kidney, stomach and
other organs. The effects of Devils Claw have been supported by
studies.
USES: Anti-inflammatory
DOSAGE: Powder: 1 teaspoon with 1 glass of water; 2 to 3 times daily.

Dill
Dill has carminative, antispasmodic, diuretic and galagtagogue
properties. It strengthens the stomach and like, Caraway, Fennel,
Anise and Nutmeg is good for gas. Nursing mothers have used it to
promote the flow of milk.
USES: Antispasmodic, calmative, carminative, diuretic, galactagogue,
stomachic.
A.K.A.: Garden dill
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily

Dogbane
Dogbane was used for bites from sick dogs but also for other poisons.
Dogbane can be used to clean the system. It is recommended for gout,
rheumatism, dyspepsia, constipation, fever, gallstones, dropsy,
Bright's disease and worms. Only roots are used; Leaves are poisonous
to cattle.
USES: Cathartic, diaphoretic, emetic, expectorant, stimulant, tonic.
A.K.A.: Bitterroot, Flytrap, Milkweed.
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 3 times
daily.

Dong Quai
Dong Quai is the traditional Chinese herb of choice for all female
complaints and the female hormonal system. Increasingly it is
becoming very popular all over the world. Dong Quai is used to
normalize menstruation, for menopause and hot flashes and as a tonic
for female glands. Dong Quai has tranquilizing properties effecting
the brain and central nervous system. It is a general tonic for the
whole body improving strength and circulation. More great use comes
from its beneficial effect on the liver. It is used to treat
Hepatitis and Cirrhosis.
USES: Antibacterial, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, emmenagogue,
hepatic
A.K.A.: Chinese angelica
DOSAGE: Capsules: follow instructions

Dusty Miller
Dusty Miller is an old Folk remedy for cataract. Introduce one or two
drops of fresh juice into the eye.

Dwarf elder
Dwarf elder is mainly used as a laxative and diuretic. Warning:
Berries are poisonous!
USES: Cholagogue, diuretic, purgative.
A.K.A.: Blood elder, Danewort, Wild elder
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 2 to 3 times
daily.

Dyers Broom
Dyers Broom constricts vessels and raises blood pressure. It removes
gravel and stones and stimulates the central nervous system. The
plant has been used for gravel and stones. Warning: Do not use if on
high blood pressure medication.
USES: Aperient, diuretic, stimulant, vasoconstrictor.
A.K.A.: Wood waxen
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 1 to 2 cups a
day.

Echinacea
Echinacea is now generally recognized for its ability to strengthen
the immune-system. It is useful for any kind of infection, to
strengthen the glands and for any problem concerning the blood.
USES: Antiseptic, depurative, digestive.
A.K.A.: Narrow-leafed purple Coneflower
DOSAGE: Tincture: 10 to 30 drops every 2 hours. Tea: 1 teaspoon for 1
cup of boiling water; 3 to 6 times daily. Powder: Half a teaspoon
with 1 glass of water; 3 to 6 times daily. Eclipta
Eclipta is an excellent tonic for the liver, kidney and the body. It
is used for aging, dizziness, blurry vision, headache, graying and
bleeding.
USES: Alternative, antipyretic, hemostatic, laxative, nervine,
vulnerary, rejuvenative.
DOSAGE: Powder: 250 mg 3 times daily or add to Ghee. Elecampane
Elecampane has a high content of insulin. But it is not only useful
for diabetes and the pancreas, it is also recommended as an
antibiotic, for worms, bronchitis, coughs, as an expectorant and as a
general tonic for the stomach and the intestines. Another Chinese
name is Xuan Fu Hua.
USES: Anthelmintic, cholagogue, diuretic, expectorant, stimulant,
tonic.
A.K.A.: Horseheal, Elfdock, Scabwort.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. English

DOSAGE: Use in homeopathic remedies. Ephedra
Ephedra contains a chemical that is closely related to Adrenaline,
which makes it very useful for asthma, bronchitis, allergies, reduce
fever, to stimulate the heart and the nervous system. Ephedra is a
diaphoretic, decongestant and bronchial dialator. Long term use is
NOT RECOMMENDED. Chinese also use the root.
USES: Diaphoretic, diuretic, fever, stimulant, tonic
A.K.A.: Desert tea, Brigham tea, Mormon tea, Squaw tea
DOSAGE: 250 to 500 mg (infusion or powder) Try in small quantities.
Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is a known antiseptic and is part of cough, mouth and
throat formulas. The Eucalyptus plant itself is a great enhancer of
air quality and kept for that purpose in some homes.
USES: Antiseptic, deodorant, expectorant, stimulant.
A.K.A.: Blue gum European Madder

USES: Astringent, diuretic, emmenagogue European Pennyroyal
Pennyroyal calms the nerves, cough and spasms. It will also increase
perspiration and the flow of urine. It will decrease nausea and
menstrual cramps.
USES: Carminative, diaphoretic, emmenagogue, sedative.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. Evening
Primrose
Evening Primrose, Styrian pumpkin and Borage seeds contain
gammalinolenic acid (GLA), which is a precursor of prostaglandin E1.
This substance is responsible for many functions in the body such as
the Immune-system. Prostaglandin E1 levels drop sharply with
increasing age. Supplementation may help many conditions like PMS,
high blood pressure, the heart, nerves, vessels, liver, spleen,
arthritis and aging in general.
USES: Astringent, mucilaginous.
A.K.A.: Night willow-herb
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon with 1 glass of water 3 times daily. Eyebright
Eyebright has its name for its reputation to strengthen the eyes. It
is also a very effective tonic for the liver. Some say that it also
fights cataracts and bad memory.
USES: Astringent, tonic.
A.K.A.: Red eyebright
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. False
Indigo
False Indigo is said to strengthen the immune system.
USES: Anti-inflammatory, emetic, purgative.
DOSAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED. False Unicorn
False Unicorn is known for its tonic properties. It soothes the
intestinal membranes and is good for all digestive problems. It is
also listed as a tonic for the kidneys, the prostate and the uterus.
USES: Diuretic, Emetic, tonic, vermifuge.
A.K.A.: Helonias, Starwort
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon with 1 glass of water; 2 to 3 times daily. Fennel
Fennel improves digestion and, like Anise and Caraway, is an
excellent remedy for gas.
USES: Antispasmodic, aromatic, carminative, diuretic, expectorant,
galactagogue, stimulant, spasmolyticum, stomachic.
DOSAGE: Half a teaspoon of ground seeds with a glass of water; 3
times daily. Fenugreek
Fenugreek is one of the best expectorants. It is used for problems
with lungs, coughs and bronchitis because it dissolves mucus and
cholesterol. Fenugreek's fat dissolving ability might come from its
lethicin content. It is also recommended for the lymphs, vessels,
heart, nerves, concentration and to counter aging.
USES: Expectorant, mucilaginous, restorative.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon of ground seeds with 1 glass of water; 3 times
daily. Fern
Fern roots decotions are used for worms, especially Tenia. It may
also be used as a purgative and cholagogue.
USES: Anthelmintic, cholagogue, demulcent, purgative.
A.K.A.: Female fern, Brake fern.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. Feverfew
Feverfew is of great help to, at least, some sufferers of migraine
attacks. It also stimulates well-being. Parthenolide, the active
chemical, is part of herbal combinations found in drugstores. Chew 3 -
4 leaves for relieve of migraine.
USES: Carminative, emmenagogue, purgative, stimulant, tonic.
DOSAGE: Eat 3 leaves 3 times daily. Tea: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of
boiling water; 3 times daily. Figwort
Figwort is used for all kinds of skin problems like: Eczema, scabies,
scurf, tumors, rashes, scratches, bruises and wounds. The Chinese
Figwort has the following properties: Anti-inflammatory,
antibacterial antifungal, antihypertensive, and vasodilators.
USES: Diuretic, exanthematous.
A.K.A.: Heal-all, Scrofula plant, Carpenters square.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 times daily. Fireweed
The leaves of Fireweed are useful for diarrhea.
USES: Antispasmodic, astringent, demulcent, tonic.
A.K.A.: Willow-herb, Purple rocket, Blood vine.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 12 times a day.
Five-finger grass
Five-finger grass is related to Silverweed with similar uses. It
stops bleeding, is used as a mouthwash, and will improve normal
intestinal complaints.
USES: Astringent
A.K.A.: Cinquefoil
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 cups daily or as
often as required. Flax
Flax, and its many benefits, are generally underrated. The whole
seeds can be used as a laxative, the ground seed and the oil contain
a great variety of nutrients, which are useful for nearly every
ailment possible from cardiovascular disease to cancer. Flax contains
all of the essential amino-acids, Vit. E, A, C, D, B1 and B2. It
contains the minerals: Potassium, Zinc, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Iron,
Manganese, Molypdenum, Vanadium and others. The most important
substances Flax contains are its oils. These are the essential
unsaturated linoleic and linolenic acids. Both of these acids, and
maybe a chemical related to the prostaglandin, are held responsible
for its great success in helping to influence Cancer (see Dr. Budwig
and her Cancer Diet). Recent work by scientists at universities in
Ontario and Manitoba have led to Government sponsored research. Flax
is also very beneficial for inflamed intestinal linings and to
strengthen liver and heart.
USES: Emollient, demulcent, laxative, pectoral.
A.K.A.: Linseed
DOSAGE: Ground seeds: 3 tablespoons 3 times daily with a glass of
water. Whole 1 to 3 tablespoons with water in the evening. Oil: 1 to
2 tablespoons 3 times daily. Forsythia
Forsythia is a strong Antibiotic useful for many bacteria and fungi.
It is effective for inflammations, colds, flu, fever and strengthens
the immune-system.
USES: Antibiotic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, fever, tonic.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon with 1 glass of water 2 to 3 times daily. Fo-Ti
Fo-Ti fights aging. It is also used as a tonic for liver, blood,
kidneys, blood vessels, reduces high blood pressure and
arteriosclerosis. Also used for vertigo, insomnia, lumbago,
constipation, and as a general tonic. Fo-Ti is a climbing plant.
Another form of Polygonum, P. persicaria, has Astringent, diuretic,
and rubefacient properties and is used for arthritis, lung problems,
diarrhea, jaundice and eczema. Other Polygonums: P. bistorta see
Bistort P. multiflorum see Fo-Ti P. aviculare see Knotgrass P.
punctatum see Smartweet
USES: Rejuvenative, hepatic, tonic.
A.K.A.: Fleeceflower
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon with 1 glass of water twice daily. Foxglove, purple
Foxglove contains glycosides, which are used in the production of
digitalis. Digitalis is a well known cardiac tonic. Warning: An
overdose may be deadly. The fresh plant may cause skin rashes,
headache and nausea just by touching.
USES: Cardiac
A.K.A.: Fairy gloves, American foxglove, Dead mens bells.
DOSAGE: NOT RECOMMENDED. Fraxinella
Fraxinella is anthelmintic, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant and
tonic. It reduces fever, expels worms and is good for the stomach and
the nerves. Fraxinella has also been used for female complaints and
for kidney and bladder gravel. Touching the fresh plant may cause
dermatitis.
USES: Anthelmintic, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, fever, tonic.
A.K.A.: Dittany, False dittany, Bastard dittany.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water once daily. Fumitory
Fumitory is used chiefly on the stomach, liver and gallbladder. It
has also diuretic properties and is very beneficial for many skin
diseases.
USES: Cholagogue, diuretic, laxative, stomachic, tonic.
A.K.A.: Earth smoke, Hedge fumitory.
DOSAGE: 1 teaspoon for 1 cup of boiling water; 3 to 12 times daily.
