A Simple Home Facial

You will need :

Cleanser

An Exfoliating scrub

Some Warm water and a facecloth OR a bowl with some hot (NOT boiling) water and a towel big enough to cover your head and drape over the bowl.

A Facial mask (based on skin type)

Your favourite moisturiser, but avoid those with AHA's or any acid based ingredients, basic is probably better.

First you'll need to clease the skin to remove any grime or dirt. If you have oily or combination skin you may want to go with a foaming cleanser, but try to make sure it's soap free. Dry skins may want to go with a creamy of milk-based cleanser. Spend a few minutes really getting rid of all that built up grime.

Next get your chosen exfoliant and using your fingers, rub the scrub in a circular motion on your face. Go easy though and try to make sure that the product you are using is a relatively gentle one. Concentrate on the areas around your nose and forehead or if you have combo skin, work harder on the areas that tend to be ‘greasy. Rinse your face well since face scrubs tend to be drying.

If you don't have a bowl handy, then fill your sink with warm water. Dip your facecloth in and press gently to the face. Do this two or three times.

If you are using a bowl, then place your towel over your head and lower yourself down so that your face is over the bowl and the towel is over the edges of the bowl. Let the steam drift up to your face. Stay there for a minute or so. The above step will open up all your pores in order to get rid of some 'deeper down' dirt in the skin.

If you want to you can add a few essential oils to the water.

For normal skins try : 3 drops lavender, 3 drops mandarin
For dry : 3 drops rose, 3 drops chamomile
For combination : 3 drops lavender, 3 drops cypress
For oily : 3 drops lemon, 3 drops eucalyptus

Now it's time to relax for a bit while using your face mask.

For oily skins clay-based face masks are great.

For dry skin a hydrating gel or cream mask would probably be more beneficial.

Apply the mask, avoiding the areas around the eyes. Keep it on for 10-20 minutes or, according to the directions on the product. A couple of slices of cucumber to brighten up the eyes is optional but a great way of pepping the eye area up. Rinse completely. Pat dry.
