Soft Cheese
Light or low-fat cheese usually has 15-17g fat per 100g. Extra light soft cheese has only 6-8g fat per 100g and is therefore also lower in calories ?which mean you save 15-20 calories per 25g serving! Also look out for the extra light cheese spread and extra light cheese triangles that are also lower that the "light" versions. The lowest soft cheese you can buy is quark, which has only 75 calories and 0g fat per 100g. Most supermarkets sell it, often under their own "healthy" brand. If you don’t see it ?ask for it!
Hard Cheese
Half-fat cheeses are now available in many varieties, but if you want a cheddar-type to put in your sandwiches or top your jacket potato, then it’s worth looking out for those called "low-fat" which have only 3g fats per 100g. As they are so low in fat, they don’t melt well so are not really suitable for grilling (half-fat cheese has up to 17g fat per 100g and full-fat cheese up to 34g), but when you need a cheesy taste for the least possible calories they are certainly worth trying. I don't recommend WW by the way.
Extra Light mayonnaise
You could have one level dessertspoon of full-fat mayonnaise for 75 checks 8g fat or 1 level dessertspoon of light or low-calorie mayonnaise-style dressing for 25 cals 3g fat ?but you can now have 1 level dessertspoon of extra light mayonnaise-style dressing for less than 15 calories and 1g fat. If you love your mayo and often have more than a dessertspoonful then it could be a switch well worth making.
Wish-Bone Salad Spritzers
Think about the good savings to be had by switching versions. Tomorrow I’ll be talking about Sweet Temptation ?do you know a 2 litre bottle of Cola has up to 48 teaspoons of sugar in it?
Happy slimming, keep smiling?
