Billy loved his garden
it's what he liked to do.
His vegies were just marvellous
they grew and grew and grew.
He grew the biggest onions
for many miles around.
He had a secret recipe
that he put in the ground.
Someone nicked his onions
he wasn't very pleased.
In fact I guess it's fair to say
he was really peeved.
Many folk were jealous
they wished they could find out.
What it was that Billy used
after all there was a drought.
But Billy told no one
he kept it very quiet.
He knew if he let on
it just might cause a riot.
He made a fence of cyclone wire
built it six foot high.
No one would nick his onions now
just let them try.
His onions grew as big as ever
people watched through the fence.
He somehow liked the idea
of keeping them in suspense.
The vegie show came round again
the onions looked just fine.
Growing in their vegie patch
like an onion shrine.
Tell us Billy they all said
why did they grow so well?
But Billy he kept quiet
he wasn't going to tell.
After the show Billy was proud
he knew he'd get first prize.
Everyone cheered hip hip hooray
they were not surprised.
Billy handed the onions around
everyone was thrilled.
Billys job was now complete
his dream had been fulfilled.
He'd grown the biggest onions
and hadn't told them how.
He wondered as he looked at them
should he tell them now.
A little smile passed his lips
he wasn't ready to say.
But he'd still pee in his bucket
every single day.
