1.  Baste with tomato juice, lemon juice or stock instead of fat.
 
2.  Let home-made soups or sauce cool then skim off the fat.  Thicken them with flour mixed with skimmed milk.
 
3.  Use yoghurt instead of cream for sauces and blend in some corn starch to prevent separation.
 
4.  Turkey sausages have half the fat of pork or beef.
 
5.  Baked potato with plain yoghurt and chives tastes as good as baked potato with cream.
 
6.  When a recipé calls for nuts substitute raisins or wheat bran.
 
7.  Switch from fish canned in oil to fish canned in brine.
 
8.  Use a herbs and spices guide for lots of flavour.
 
9.  Grill or try cooking in a clay pot that roasts meat in it's own juices.
 
10. Prepare pasta with herbs not butter.
 
11. Add zest to veggies with lemon juice.
