 FROM WW'S

As the temperatures drop why not indulge in our soothing, relaxing drinks for daytime, and give-yourself-a-boost boozy brews especially for the evening! All require minimum effort - in fact, they're ready in the time it takes to say put the kettle on?

Herby Miso
POINTS® value: 0
Makes a change from Bovril! Use miso, a Japanese stock that comes in cubes and powders, to make up a warming drink-come-snack. Make up a mugful by diluting one teaspoon of miso with boiling water. Stir in chopped fresh herbs such as parsley and coriander and a few splashes of Tabasco for a spicy kick.

Citrus refresher
POINTS value: 0
This is great if you're coming down with a cold and want something comforting but refreshing. Add the juice of half lemon and half a lime to a large mug and top up with boiling water.

Mint tea
POINTS value: 0
This is great reviver after lunch or dinner, and helps to prevent that post meal slump.

Make a pot of tea with a teaspoon of loose green tea per person, stir in a bunch of fresh mint. Leave to stand for three minutes, then stir in artificial sweetener to taste. Strain into Moroccan tea glasses or heatproof glass tumblers.

Bourbon toddy
POINTS value: 1½
Make a hot toddy with bourbon such as Southern Comfort or Jack Daniels instead of scotch and use orange slices instead of lemon. This recipe serves two.

Stud two slices of orange with three cloves each. Put 50ml bourbon, 2 tsp clear honey, 50ml fresh orange juice, a pinch of cinnamon and 100ml boiling water in a jug. Stir together and pour into two heatproof glasses. Adjust the ingredients to suit your taste.

Mulled white wine
POINTS value: 1½
This is the hot, refreshing answer to the cooling summer spritzer. Gently heat a bottle of Weight Watchers Reisling or dry white wine in a pan, add a few stems of crushed lemon grass, a generous amount of fresh root ginger juice and 1 tbsp clear honey or artificial sweetener. Dilute with boiling water to taste (about 50-100ml). Serve in glasses with slices of lemon.

Apple boost
POINTS value: 2
Dilute one tablespoon elderflower cordial with one carton of fresh apple juice (the clear variety is best), add three cinnamon sticks and the zest of one clementine (wash and wipe the skins well first). Heat gently, adding boiling water to dilute, if liked. Serve with a cinnamon stick to garnish each.

Spicy chocolate
POINTS value: 1½
Make up a mug of hot chocolate from powder using boiling water. Stir in a splash of vanilla extract and sprinkle with a few pinches of nutmeg. You can go even lighter by using a light hot chocolate mix.

Hot coffee cup
POINTS value: 4
This is a dessert meets drink and is great for dinner parties when you don't want the temptation of making a whole pud.

Make 100ml strong espresso coffee (buy these in sachets and make up with boiling water). Stir in one measure Bailey's or Tia Maria. Into two cups and saucers, put a scoop of low fat vanilla ice cream and pour over the liqueur coffee. Serve ?and impress your guests!

For your guidance, a WW point is roughly equal to 70 calories.
