Clarins Spa Detox Body Wrap
Terri Dwyer, ex-Hollyoaks actress, is a huge fan of this treatment, which involves being smeared with a bespoke blend of mineral-rich White Clay and warmed oils, then being wrapped in a blanket, while the skin is nourished and cleansed. It finishes with a massage and wash-off and is designed to help improve the quality of the patients skin; impurities are eliminated and circulation is boosted, leaving skin much smoother and softer. Length: one hour.
Available from many spas including Ragdale Hall - ragdalehall.co.uk - where it costs £62.50.
Chavutti-thai massage
A hybrid massage treatment where in the first half, you lie partly clothed and have a very bendy Thai massage ?it’s a bit like being yoga’d; then half an hour of being walked all over as your therapist hangs off an Indian rope (attached to the ceiling or walls) and uses his feet to smoothe over your body. The latter part is very oily, very relaxing, but not for the shy ?you have to be TOTALLY naked. Julian Clary is apparently a fan! Where to go: chavutti-thai.com. Costs vary but are around £60-100 for a one hour session.
Myofascial release
This is a form of bodywork that is directed at releasing fascia ?which is a seamless web of connective tissue that covers and connects the muscles, organs and skeletal structures of the body. It’s a hands on massage/manipulative therapy; some of it can be painful, some of it relaxing; emotional releases can also be experienced when this therapy is being performed. Good for people who have injuries, stress, poor posture or trauma, and need a powerful massage experience.
Melinda Messenger, TV presenter and ex-model, is a user of this therapy, claiming it helped reshape her body.
Most complementary therapy clinics offer this therapy and costs are around £45-70 for a one hour session.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
David Furnish and Gary Barlow are recent clients of London based Jeremy Unwin, who does a combination of treatments. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a relatively well known complementary therapy, in which health and well being is improved by the stimulation of the body’s chi. This is done either by acupuncture (where needles are placed on energy lines or meridians of the body and the energy stimulated or calmed down, depending on what is needed) or by prescribing certain Chinese herbs, which are taken on a monthly basis. “I use whatever a client needs,?says Jeremy. See natureworks.co.uk ?expect the cost to be around £60 for a one hour session.
