I'm on this book right now by Michael Crichton (sp?) and was wondering if anyone knew if it was based on actual events.  A foreward in the book sets it up that way but I know a lot of fiction writers do that for effect.  I doubt it's true, since it seems like that story would have received more attention.  Just wondering.

Great book.  I remember reading it in high school......and that was over 30 years ago.  The movie came out in the 70's and it was pretty good too.

I strongly doubt it's based on an actual event.  While it's possible (but highly doubtful), it's also a story of very secret stuff going on that if it did happen (which I doubt), the general public would likely never know.  But, this kind of situation was one they prepared for after the astronauts returned from the moon.  They were quarentined for several weeks after they returned, just in case they carried some microbe back from the moon that would be deadly and create an epidemic.

Michael Crichton writes a good story.  But I'm sure it's all fiction......

Yeah, I'm sure it's fiction.  I figure, if he found out all this information and published the book in 1969, then journalists would have certainly looked into it and made it front page news.    And I thought it was made into a movie.  Wasn't sure if I was thinking of that one or The Omega Man, but I believe they made a movie of that one, too.
