Has anyone read this?  I just finished it last night and what a chilling book!  I've read horror novels that didn't scare me as much!!  I think the part that got me the most was when Offred talks about when the changes in society first occured and women were being shut off from money and jobs.  I haven't been that wrapped up in a book in a long time.  I definitely recommend it.  Very well-written and will give all you ladies shivers!

Christine, I read The Handmaid's Tale many, many years ago and yes, it gave me the chills too. I kept thinking, what if this really happens. Did you know it was made into a movie in 1990. Starred Robert Duvall, Natasha Richardson, Faye Dunaway, Aidan Quinn and Elizabeth McGovern. I thought it was good too.

Christine...I read "The Handmaids Tale" at least 10-12 years ago.  It was so good.  I remember being freaked out by it at the time too.

Another great book you might like is "The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold.  Its about a young girl who is murdered, and it takes place from her point of view after she is murdered.  I highly recommend it!  Its also a quick read, I read it in a day or 2.

I've seen the movie ages ago and thought it was well done.  I'd like to see it again.  And Eileen, I'll have to look for that book.  Maybe I can find it at the Salvation Army.  I love to go there every Thursday for books and they know me quite well now.....I've been labeled "The Book Lady" and the women love to hold my baby while I shop!

The movie was pretty racy.
