I read him too Tye! The next Dark Tower came out today- "Song of Susannah". I haven't bought it- yet. I love how Stephen King is so in tune to pop culture. He cracks me up. Although I think his earlier books are much better than his later stuff. In his non fiction book "On Writing" he says that he was drunk and high and just rambled on and on in some of his writing. Now I want to read them all again and see if I can figure out which ones!

I'm a fan of his, although I haven't read a lot of the newer stuff.  I did just finish The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon and it's absolutely fantastic.  I love how "real" his people are.  Nobody else could have done The Shawshank Redemption - that short story was brilliant and the film did it justice.
I think my favorite King book is The Stand, though.  Just love that one.  It was neat for me because he mentions the Ogunquit area in Maine and that's my favorite vacation spot.  (Oh, and in Dreamcatcher, he uses the Quabbin Reservoir which starts just a few miles from my house.  He was in town researching the book and mentions my area in it.  That was pretty neat, too!)

Oh I am an avid SK fan, I have read all of his books and short stories except for the latest in the gun slinger series.  I have also read all of his books as Richard Bachman, I started reading Stephen King when I was just a very young girl and his books have always carried me away to another world.
I think my favorite would have to be "It" but there have been so many.  I like the horror novels as opposed to the science fiction ones, but he is brilliant.

Tayna,

I'm with you.  It is and has been my favorite of King's novels.  That thing is 1100 pages and I've read it twice...that's saying something.

Some other great ones are Pet Sematery, Needful Things, and Insomnia.  My favorite  writing of King's is The Mist from Skeleton Crew...I absolutely love that story.

I've fallen off the pace with my King reading, but I buy every book with the plan to read it someday...I find that since we had kids, I have very little reading time anymore.

Jim

I agree with you all- his early works are much better! I liked "It"- but now I'm majorly afraid of clowns! My favorite has always been The Stand- the movies didn't begin to do that one justice. I also liked The Mist,Jim! And I still have nightmares about some little boy vampire scratching on my window saying "Let me in!Let me in!"

I haven't read any King in years! After IT and The Stand, his works just didn't seem to be the same to me. I've read The Stand, I swear, 5 times. Twice in it's original form, and 3 more times when it was rereleased with like 140 more pages. That book kept me company in the army and long after too.
