I loved this book, and think it would make a great movie if done right.  The only thing I know about Jackson is his "Rings", movies.  Which is a totally different genre.

Here is the link to the story:

Anyone have any casting suggestions??

Wow!  I also thought this story was very well written.  I hope Jackson does justice to it.

I read it over the summer and I'm trying to remember who I imagined playing what.   The lead, Susie, is a tough one for me since she's a 14 yr. old.   If Wynona Ryder were younger, I could see her in that role.     Maybe Emily Watson as the mother??

My marbles got some good air from a hike just now.  I believe Diane Lane would be a good choice for the mother role...and she's  played wandering women more than once and quite well.

It would be hard casting the role of the 14 year old.  Heck I cant even think of any good teen actresses.  Dakota Fanning comes to mind, but she must be only 10.

For Mr. Harvey, I can picture BillyBob Thorton.

Diane Lane would be a good choice for the mother.  She is a good actress.

For the Dad, i have an actor in my mind, but dont know his name.  I'll have to check around google, to see if I can find him.

The actor I am thinking of was Meryl Streeps husband in The River Wild, and he was also in a movie called "A Map of the World".  He was great in it, and may have even been nominated for an award.

Anyway...he is the one I am thinking of, but dont know his name.

I did a little research and it's David Strathairn you're thinking of for the father role.  Good one!    I have a little crush on him, still.    Wondering if he might be a bit too old for that role, though...maybe he could pull it off.

For Mr. Harvey I imagined a younger Harry Dean Stanton type.   What about the boozed up, yet wise and funny grandmother?  Shirly MacLaine?

Youre right Becca...he must have been 10 years younger when I saw him in "A Map of the World".  Have you seen that film?  He was great in it, and it deals with loss, similar to "Lovely Bones".  He is probably now in his Mid 50's, and should be in Mid 40's for the film.  But he would've been good 10 years ago...LOL.

I can definatley picture HDS as MR Harvey.  I am picturing him as the Dad in pretty in pink.

Shirley MacClain would be good as the grandmother.

Its funny when you read a book, how you picture the characters.  I pictured Mr Harvy to look like Billy Bob for some reason.  I pictured the dad to look like David Strathairn...for some wacky reason

Haven't seen A Map of the World.   I'll remember it next time at Blockbuster.

Picturing the characters as you do isn't whacky.    I always do that!   lol

I'm just thrilled to hear this bit of news about The Lovely Bones!    I wonder when we'll hear about The Secret Life of Bees?   :-)
