Mr. Burnett and Mr. Probst have committed to the 19th and 20th seasons, but CBS has ordered the series through only the 18th. Mr. Moonves said, however, that he expected to order more. “It’s not going away anytime soon,” he said.

CBS would be foolish to let “Survivor” retire, at least until it comes up with something that will deliver higher ratings in the time slot. That something could well be a new reality program.

Forecasters have learned to be wary of betting against reality shows. By 2005, “everyone had started saying ‘reality’s had it,’ and then ‘Dancing With the Stars’ showed up,” ...

IMO these reality shows will be around for awhile.
Survivor
Amazing Race
Idol
Dancing With The Stars
So You Think You Can Dance.
 
Sometimes I think that if Jeff was to leave the show then it would go downhill.  But, I ask myself if I would continue watching and the answer is yes.  I would bash the new host and make comparisons but I would still watch.
 
Great article.  I watched Smarter than a 5th grader to watch the superintendent of Georgia schools win the million.  I had no idea that it was also Mark Burnetts.  The man has the midas touch.
