We went and saw the latest Harry Potter today and enjoyed it very much.  It is better than the first 2 in my opinion with much more humor.  Funny thing is, I only recently saw 1 & 2 on dvd.  Now I find myself chomping at the bit for the release of Goblet.

The child actors are really getting older, how are they going to do that for the next movie??  Do they get much older in the book??  Perhaps I should read the next book.

Tanya - Goblet is already in production in London.  Don't know about the cast tho.  I know that Daniel Radcliff (Harry) is not sure how many he will do.  I think that they try to keep these movies coming as quickly as possible so that if the actors are willing, they can continue to play the parts since each book is written for the next school year - at least so far that's how its been done.  I don't think it would be the same if they had to change the casting.

hmmm - I just went and looked for the link and couldn't find it.  Unless I've lost my mind, I remember reading that the next HP movie would be released Nov. 2004 - sounds awful soon, but if I find it again, I will post it.

Thanks Lolo, after posting this thread I went to a site and found that Goblet is already in production and according to that site (Internet Movie Database) Harry, Ron, Hermione & Malfoy are all played by the same kids.  I was glad to see this because I think changing the actors would impact the movie as well.

The Order of Phoenix is scheduled for release in 2007.  The only one signed up for that so far is the kid that plays Malfoy.

Glad you found it - for a minute there I thought maybe I was losing my mind.  And good news about the casting!  Thanks a million!

would you please post the link?  I thought Nov. 2004 was too early for the next one - must've been 2005.

Regarding the kids ages....if I remember correctly, the actors who play Harry, Ron and Hermione were all the same age as the character.  Draco Malfoy was some 6 months or so older than his character.

The first 2 movies were made with a year separating them...so in the Chamber of Secrets, they were all still the same age as their characters (save Draco)...they took a 6 month break in filming between Chamber and Prisoner....so Draco is now a full year (give or take) older than his character and the others roughly 6 months older.

Goblet of Fire is due out in November of 2005....which includes another 6 month break...so when it is released, all of the kids will be a year or more older than their characters.  By the time Phoenix hits theaters in '07...they could start having issues with the age of the actors vs the age of the characters.

The thing working in their favor is that the characters are in Wizarding School for 7 years from like 11 to 18...and and what other age do kids change the most than from 11 to 18?  So...they could probably pull it off if all the kids want to finish it.

Somehow, though, I don't think they will...I'd wager we have a new cast for Order of the Phoenix....which ultimately will be fine....the actors aren't near as important as the script and director in these films, IMO.

Actually Jim, according to the above website which lists the kids birthday's you are mistaken about the ages.

Daniel Radcliffe (HP) was born in July 1989 so he  is 15.
Rupert Grint (Ron) was born in August 1988 so he is almost 16
Emma Watson (Hermione) was born in April 1990 so she is 14
Tom Felton (Drako Malfoy) was born in Sept. 1987 so he is almost 17

The characters ages are 13 in the latest movie, but as you point out even with this age difference it could still work out provided they don't change too much.  I did notice in this last movie that Drako really has changed the most in my opinion any way.

I could have sworn I saw that the 3 were all the same age.  Oh well.  At least I got Draco as older correct.  :)

Also consider that the movie that's out now, started filming back in February of '03.  So deduct a year from each of their ages to get how old they were when the movie was filmed.

Jim you are right about one thing, a lot does depend on the script and the director.  This most recent Potter had a different director than the previous two and I could tell.  Though I enjoyed it, unlike most people, I didn't enjoy it quite as much as the last two.  I thought it was extremely slow in several parts and could have been edited by at least twenty minutes or so. Thank goodness for Ron being so funny.
