I read on Yahoo news that there is a new documentary coming out about the bias of the Murdoch Fox News Network and its conservative playbook.  Looks like folks are trying to follow the Mike Moore method of box office bonanza.

One humourous byline about the documentary related a story about Bill O'Reilly.  Apparently, O'Reilly has publicly stated that he has only told one guest to "shut up" in six years.  I guess the movie researched that, found that his statement was not true and that he had told many guests to shut up.  So, apparently, the movie clips together all the times that O'Reilly has said shut up to a number of different guests.

Anyway, all of that aside, I believe you will see many "documentaries" coming out now subsequent to Moore's big bucks success.  It's all about money and what sells... box office stuff.

Let's just hope these new documentaries are more fact than fiction.

I thought this was something all might have an opinion on and possibly agree on rather than project a negativity.   This is a box office move to be sure (even though the Fox network has been questionable as to its allegiance for some time).

Anyway, the point is that documentaries will be the new thing... plenty of bucks to be made there and this fits well into the box office stuff that Jim innocently brought up.  Plus, it keeps things going.  I've seen these other survivor sites and they look like they are completely dead... nothing going on at all.  At least we have been active.

Oh, and I well expect the "documentaries" to include many things that are fiction... anything to sell tickets you know.

Whether this documentary is 100% or 70% factual, I'll go see it if the majority of reviews are favorable...like at least 3 outta 5 stars.

I'm glad the subject of documentaries came up.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' definition of what falls into a documentary film category is as follows:

An eligible documentary film is defined as a theatrically released non-fiction motion picture dealing creatively with cultural, artistic, historical, social, scientific, economic or other subjects. It may be photographed in actual occurrence, or may employ partial re-enactment, stock footage, stills, animation, stop-motion or other techniques, as long as the emphasis is on fact and not on fiction.     Here's the link

So...some documentary films don't share only facts...and that is fine...at least to me it is.   Moore is just one of many documentary filmmakers who shares more than facts in his films...and these films are properly placed in this category as it is defined.

I wonder if these so-called Documentaries are classified as such when placed into the Library of Congress -
Or do they end up as
Dewey decimal file # CRA-P 13

Precisely my point.

Take it to the Academy then!
These are the facts, though.

That's okay, Tanya, I don't care.    I'm a middle child and never expected nor did I ever get the last word in.  Whenever I do get a last word in, it feels weird!  lol    I started writing the following, got distracted, then saw your post:

Seriously, post #4 was in response to the last line in post #3.   I took it to read that the poster was expecting the future of "documentaries" to include not just facts.  I think I read it wrong, now that I just read it again.   lol
Anyway, I was trying to show that it's been going on for quite a while.

No worries, Becca.

I was the baby and seldom if ever got the last word in, but I did try occasionally
Actually I think I am just feeling slightly ornery today.

I think you shall see that the fact or fiction thing won't be a factor.  This is the beginning of a new trend in making films that are purportedly fact, but more importantly, MAKE MONEY.  This is just like these dopey political books coming out all the time now.  Go to the bookstore and you shall see all of these politicians have their own books... it's all about money and nothing about art.   I expect that, eventually, there will be "documentaries" that are much more like the National Enquirer than anything factual.
