And here we are ladies and gentlemen...after tracking the crazy money being brought in this year by Shrek 2....the big ogre is on the verge of toppling ET to takes it's place at #3 on the all time box office chart behind Star Wars and Titanic.

Shrek has brought in $435,073,190 through Thursday and ET had a take of $435,110,554.

Also of note, Spidey 2 just passed Jurassic Park for #9 on the All Time list with $357,461,241.  A mere $13mil more (which it will likely have by the end of next weekend) will carry it passed Passion of the Christ for #8 All Time.  At the rate it's going, I see it easliy entering the Top 6 All Time.

This is quite an amazing time for box office.  3 of the top 10 films of all time have been released this year.  Crazy, indeed.

Also The Village will likely be crossing $100mil this weekend to help M Night Shaymalan keep his place as one of the more successful young directors around.

Thank you and good night,
Jim

Jim,

What is your opinion about the connection between movies made for kids and adult movies and resultant success at the box office?  I'd heard that Spielberg makes a children's movie whenever he needs cash to make something else.

Kid's movies... do not know if it is a fair comparison as to quality when whatever kid's movie comes out that is halfway decent always does better than the movies for adults.
