Got to see it today and enjoyed it.  I wouldn't say it's hysterically funny, but that it's rather cute, creative, very sweet...and very silly.     There were plenty of giggles in the audience, including mine.   Glad I never read the books because I heard that the 'followers' are disappointed with the flick...too bad.    Good cast, too, etc. etc...

One of the actors I had never heard of, Zooey Deschanel, reminded me so much of a young Debra Winger.  Just seconds after I saw her onscreen, I thought of Winger.   I just did a little research on Zooey and found that she was in a movie called "Eulogy" with Winger last year and they played relatives!!   It was an omg! moment for me.    ;-)

I'm going to see it soon.... for my 42 birthday :)

So, I 'm glad you gave it a good-ish review. An old hippy at work (who is a veteran of the original radio show, tv show and the books!) also gave it a qualified thumbs up, then told me about all the bits they changed from the book!

But I will have to go and see it if for nothing else to see what the meaning of lfe is!

OK. Been there. Done that. AND have the t-shirt to prove it (true: a "42 the meaning of life" t-shirt from ebay!!)

No, the movie wasn't a faithful reproduction of the book (or the orig TV series). but

Yes I did enjoy it, thank you Becc :)
