Well, if I was going to be on a deserted island and could only have one cd, it would be:
 The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Blood Sugar Sex Magic

If I could have 3 I would add:

AC\DC Powerage

The Who Quadrophenia

Freethought, I believe the album you're referring to is "Search for the Lost Chord"!

Oh, so many!!  I guess my very favorite would be Heart's Dog & Butterfly (and anything else from them pre-1981).  Others are AC/DC (what's the title?  It's the soundtrack to Maximum Overdrive), soundtrack to Times Square (Tim Curry movie), Abba: The Album (yep, I'm an Abba fan), soundtrack to Over The Edge (movie with Matt Dillon, music from Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Ramones, etc...), and I love anything from The Doors, Van Morrison (Bang Masters especially), Motown music, Louis Armstrong, etc....  And I also love Soundgarden, Dokken, Bulletboys, Van Halen (with DLR),  etc...  Yes, I have quite the mix of favorites!  lol

What a fun question!
Anything from the Beatles (Yes, I'm one of those obsessive fans), Joni Mitchell's "Blue", James Taylor's Greatest Hits, Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors"...

More recent stuff--Counting Crows "August and Everything After" and Pearl Jam's "Ten"
