Ken Griffey, Jr. hit his 500th home run.  He is one of only twenty baseball stars
to reach that mark.  I congratulate Junior for that feat as a baseball fan and a
Reds fan!!!

Finally!  I thought his career was over.  How far do you go back with the Reds, Buckeye?  One of my favorite moments of all time was the Reds/A's in 72... the reds were the redneck team (see Sparky Anderson) and the A's all had long hair and moustaches.  It was a great series that matched two great teams (and I used to love that big red machine but for that horse's butt Pete Rose).

I should say that Rose is a LYING horse's butt and that Joe Morgan knows it.  Oh, and being from the Bay Area west, I was and am an Oakland fan all the way.  In those days, it was two bucks to sit in the bleachers.

Free...

Pete Rose is very much a part of the Reds culture.  He may be a lying SOB,
He deserves the be in the Hall of Fame for his accomplishments with his bat
and glove.  We have other SOB's in the Hall such as Ty Cobb, who was a
racist  and hustler in every sense of those words.  This is not the Hall of Saints!

Agreed.  He deserves to be in the Hall... I saw him many times and he was a terrific hitter and competitor.  That he was a jerk like Cobb, should not keep him out.  What did guys like Tony Perez and Johnny Bench think about playing with him?  As I recall, Rose was generally unpopular with everyone (other than his baseball heroics).

I was watching that movie "Major League" and they noted the Charlie Sheen is a die-hard Reds fan.

Back to Junior...not sure if anyone heard about this...but after the game where he hit his 500th homer...the fan gave him the ball for a couple autographs, etc.

Griffey said at the time that he would "take care" of the kid for giving the ball back.

Anyway, as it turns out, this kid and 3 other people will now be Junior's guests at the All Star game.  He's got transportation, accomodations and tickets to the game.  He will also be on the field for warmups playing catch with the players and taking batting practice with Junior.

In this day and age of people like Barry "you can all kiss my ass" Bonds...Ken Griffey Jr has shown...to me, anyway...that there are still good guys in sports.

I just figured, in case y'all didn't already know...that Junior remains a class act.  Here's to 500 more!
