Hi, I am in need of some advise.  The salon I've been working at is closing its doors at the end of June.  I've been here for 18 months and I now have to move on.  I'm a full time hairstylist that gets paid a small salary bi-weekly and make 25%commission of my services.  I am desperatly trying to gain my clientele but with word getting around that were closing the traffic flow has been DEAD!!!
I have a small clientele to take with me but the small salary I was receiving was making ends meet when I had a slow pay period.
I"m now looking for another job but I'm mostly finding 50/50 commission and no salary.  I'm not busy enough to live off 50/50...I also don't want to start hopping around and potentially lose all my clientele...
I don't know what to do??
Please help!!

I"m now looking for another job but I'm mostly finding 50/50 commission and no salary.I like 50/50..you'll be getting 25% more in commission  I'm not busy enough to live off 50/50...Try a mall where there are lots of walk-ins  work sundays in a large mall lots of walk-ins..I also don't want to start hopping around and potentially lose all my clientele...Do you have there phone numbers?
I don't know what to do??Some salons will offer a small salary for the first 6ix months.. to be honest if you don't pick up new clients ..perhaps it's time to re-educate in the field ..due classes workshops  ...good lucky..Drew

Hey there sweetie.. CHIN UP SMILE!!!
I Agree with all of Drews responses.... My suggestion would be get in a company salon WHERE EVEN IF SLOW.. U got money coming to you.... In a private salon there is no guarantee.... Just my personal thoughts... But Definately all the numbers you have for your clients CALL THEM.... Then a while back I found out about a site through here our group... It's called www.wheresmystylist.com  IT IS FREE To put yourself on there... Start telling your clients... THIS IS WHERE AND HOW YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND ME... Check me out on there to get a idea of what you can use it for... It will help you when making your move...
Look up Leslie Marchant under the search stylist.... :)
ok 2nd... As long as you make up your mind when you get into a salon like a company salon and make up your mind.. YOUR STAYING PUT NO MATTER WHAT... You won't have to worry about loosing your clients... and YOU'LL BE ABLE TO GROW YOUR CLIENTELLE... AND GAIN SOME NEW ONES TOO!!!! That is where Drew was talking bout working in a mall or something work sundays with lots of walk ins!!! MOST COMPANY SALONS HAVE LOTS OF WALK-INS... Where you don't have to worry about if you have a clientelle or not... If you stay put in one for a long time then you can go back into a private salon situation!
If you live or have A HAIR CUTTERY near you ... It is the most beneficial company I found to work for.. You not only gain 45% comm with potenial to gain 50% comm but you make 5-15% off your retail ALWAYS!!!! So .. GO DO IT GIRL!
Anyhow... Hope all this helps some....
PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO EMAIL ME IF I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY...
Just flag the email--SALON TALK so I don't think it junk mail lol
HUGS !~ Leslie
GOOD LUCK!

I agree with both responses, the salon of choice should depend on what's around in your area...so start shopping around NOW! Collect as many phone numbers as you can, if you hadn't already. Most private salons will be happy to advertise for you, or advertise yourself on www.craigslist.org for free. Either way, this is a blessing in disguise. You'll definately be in a better salon, and making more money. When one door closes, another one opens. Everything happens for a reason, you need to believe that. Good luck!

Thank you all for your help....I will take all of the advise into consideration while I'm looking for a new job.  www.wheresmystylist.com isnt working anymore  which stinks as I had registered on there previously.
I will try the Craiglist thing too....
I can always rely on great advise on this site!!
Thanks again

If you have a  JCPenney around, they are a decent place to work.  They pay hourly and commission.  The benefits are great.  I worked there for 13 years, then it was time to move on.  At least you will have a paycheck guarenteed and can build up from there.
