I have recently changed salons and I want to start offering fusion hair extensions there.  My new boss loves the idea but when I have done it by myself in the past I've always made the client (usually a friend or family) purchase their own human hair from the beauty supply first and bring it to me so I can pre-tip them.  I talked with my new boss and we're trying to figure out a way to ask the client to provide the hair as until we know if there is any interest we don't want to stock a ton of hair at the salon.  Is it professional to ask the client to supply their own hair, or should we contact a company for a swatch book and have the client pick and order it for them?  Any advise would be great!!

I think the swatch book is a great idea. That way you bring in only what you need. Take a deposit from the client tho in case they back out.

I agree, the swatch book and deposit is a great idea.

The way I do it is ...have the client come in for their free consult, we then figure out what they need color wise.  The client pays in advance for the hair (non refundable)and then pays for the service when they are put in.  That way if they change thier mind there is no money lost to the salon.  I think it also helps the client spread out paying for a service that is soo expensive.
Good Luck!
