Hey, I was wondering if anyone has used the Redlites and has any suggestions on how to get it to last longer. I'm using it on a client who we color to match her natural color which is a level 4 dark brown. Before she came to me she was having her previous stylist pull it through to the ends every time and she had a very solid color. So I talked her into just a few little hilights to break it up. I used the redlites so that I could use it over the top of colored hair. I use 40 vol and put her under the dryer for about 10 to 15 mins. It looks good that day but when she comes back in 4 weeks to touch up her roots the hilights have faded out. Also has any one used the new Goldwell product that is supposed to be similar to Redlites and how does it last and what do you think.

Redlites is known for fading too fast. Aside from using a demi over it, it would probably be best to use another brand instead. I've heard Joico makes something similiar and is much more longer lasting.

Hello! Yes, Star.....I'm alive! Sorry I haven't been more supportive lately. But it's now after the Christmas Rush. So, I'll be here more!

Regarding Redlights from Matrix: I have used them in the past and they are bright, but they don't last. Big time fading. Two years ago I switched to Joico and absolutely LOVE their Verocolor. Well, this past fall, they came out with Vero Ultra. It is basically a lifting powder with tint! Ultra lift, up to 7 levels, ultra color deposit and ultra condition (K-Pak built in). They have 3 shades which are all inter-mixable: copper, red and red mahogany. It's specifically developed for off-scalp highlighting and designed to be applied to dry hair. 30-45mins of process time. I have taken a level 1 and applied Vero Ultra Red + 40vol. in foils for 45mins and it looks INCREDIBLE. If she does her homework and uses her Color Endurance Shampoo and Conditioner at home, she will maintain that bright red until her retouch. Guranteed.

But can use this over color treated hair? Other wise it sounds like  that would do the trick.

Vero Ultra is designed to be used over color treated hair. I just did another head of red foils with it. It's a fantastic product! I had put a few chunks on a client on December 22nd. Her natural level was a 3N. I just saw her yesterday and the red chunks are still as bright as they were the day I did them. It's a great product!

You have to ask yourself, I always say ok if I'm going to do this chemical service can the hair handle it?  Is it to porus to handle red hair color.  The hair has to be in somewhat excellent conditionton to handle red.  And you have to hope that they use the products that you recommend to them.  Grund is an excellent product for maintaining red hair.

I've found that Matrix Kickers tend to boost up the red lights a little...but they still fade....the best reds I've used are from Wella Koleston Perfect....they are bright and vibrant and really mesh well with the natural tones in the hair.  Of course the best results are obtained with the proper Wella S'poo and cond....One day clients will realize that Suave doesn't make their hair fabulous...lol.  Until then...

Darn it i bought some Redlights before I read this post. I am trying them on a teenager tomorrow. She wants some blonde foils and some of these redlights. Oh well at least the blonde will last.

If they fade too fast I will ask her to come back for a freshen up since she is a guinea pig for me to try them on.

When using redlights you can get them to stay longer by applying clear prizm , to all the hair, under the dryer for 20 mins, treatment is about 15 dollars extra and repeat  every  3 weeks, tell client only to use a pro/ shampoo and cond. So you have made extra 15.00, you sell your retail, and client comes back every 3 weeks for treatment. I do alot of treatments of this sort for summer as it protects the hair and adds so much shine. men and women. The redlights will stay bright

The new goldwell highlift reds are great!!!  I've used matrix redlights, the chi highlift reds and a few others that I don't care to mention & I've found the new goldwell to hold up the best for me and my clients.  One thing I especially love about this new series is the refresher/renew product of these shades as well.  Works great for when they come in for their touch up
