I would have to ask the same questions as Lisa. It's strange to me that a CG is becoming a RV or RR. Hmmmmm...

if it is a virgin color, your underlining color at a 4 or 5 is red and red orange, you might be needing a higher volume of peroxide to give you a faster lifting power to get you where you want to go. it is odd to me that you are having the results your getting just lifting 2 or 3 levels. the more info you have on the client could tell us what's going on.

What's important to know is whether the virgin level is a 4 OR a 5. What volume were you using for each one? Also, what is the texture of the hair like? Coarse or fine? If it's coarse, I find that 30 or 40 vol is needed when 20 vol would have easily lifted it on someone with finer hair. If you're getting an RR or RV tone that you wouldn't expect, then most likely there is something in their counteracting what you're putting in. A full consultation is very necessary.

would it make sense to say that because of the natural undretones(red) than the color(which also has red) is getting a double dose of red and one needs to be cancelled out??? how would you achieve a copper color

grey hair is devoid of any warmth, that's probably why it's turning so red on you. you might try adding some gold or even a light golden brown in your formula. i know it takes time but i would try a strand test somewhere in the back with a couple of different formulas to see which one gives you the best result.
