It has been a while since I joined, sorry I havent posted yet.

I am just a student, 4 months into cosmetology.  Sorry to say, not learning as much as I need to, but extremely interested.  I hope you all dont mind me asking alot of ?'s.

One major problem I am having right now, is coloring over bleach.  When I color over hilites or small chunks, I dont have a problem.  But with my own hair, color will not grab over my bleach.  I used Paul Mitchell bleach.  I have tried Joico Med Beige Blonde to cover all.  it took well in the back, but it slides off the top and front of my hair.  How can I, if at all, keep it on there?  Is there a better brand, maybe SoColor?  Today I bought Joico Med brown thinking darker would grab better.

Thanks in advance for the help.
Dawn

No matter what brand you're using, the process is the same- you have to fill first. Not only will this prevent the color from sliding off, the results will be more even and richer. The idea is to replace the missing pigment that the bleach took out, that you need to hold the new darker color as if you were coloring your natural hair. The filling formula would depend on the desired shade, and the missing pigment between what you have, and where you want to go. Use a level 2 shades lighter than the final formula, either with a demi color, or 5 vol. developer for 10 mins, and the final formula using the desired shade with another demi or 10 vol, and process between 20-30 mins. Do you have literature that comes with your color line? It might give you examples of filling formulas, and guidelines of underlying tones in each level.  If not, let me know your desired level, and I'll find my literature for colorsync.
