I've have great experiences with this sort of problem with Malibu 2000. It's a clarifying treatment, and people love it because it leaves their hair feeling fresh and conditioned. This also works well on removing artificial pigment from freshly colored hair, that has unwanted tones, or if the color is too dark. It will not penetrate overly coated colored hair, or if it wasn't professionly done though. There are many uses for this product, and it outlines all of them on the box.
