You also want to see how many times they've colored their hair black. Alway test strands, take a small section and try to lift it and if after ten minutes it hasn't moved then I wouldn't continue. I don't mean moved as in already gone but at least budged a little so that you can see that it is lifting a bit. Does Redken offer a color remover? Matrix has a color remover as well as Rusk, so maybe that could be one way to help rid the black if they do not want it extremely lighter.
