I use CHI or Matrix with 10 VOL developer if the hair is relaxed. I also use a color additive that I actually buy at Sally's that cancels out the orange and the result you receive are beautiful golden highlights. Most lightners recommend 10 VOL developer for relaxed hair, and anything higher (for relaxed hair) is not recommended. If the hair is still in it's natural state, (and healthy) then you can move more towards the 30 and 40 VOL.
