I hear ignorant questions everyday, but today was worth mentioning. There were these two african-american girls who came in today, asking about the price of the wash and set. When I told them all the information needed, one of them asked, "are you dominican?" I looked at her with confusion and said no, and she said "because usually dominicans do wash and sets, so I was just wondering". I just said, no, anyone could do it. LMAO! Has anyone heard of this? Is this just another one of those old fashioned stereotypes? It was the first I've heard of it. This reminds me of when I was in school, and my teacher wouldn't give me any relaxers because only "they" do them. That makes me mad just thinking about it. I feel, that as long as you have hands, you could do anything that anyone else can. Especially wash and sets, which is the first thing we learned in beauty school. It's kind of funny when I think about it, but it just makes me mad if decisions are made based on race.

Good grief! It takes all kinds to make the world go around! And yes, many people still have their heads buried inside their own rectums to realize that we don't live in that era! Oh well, no worries Star. Good topic, though!

Eww she actually said that??? That would make it hard for anyone to be nice to her. That's someone who I wouldn't even want to be around!

I'm african american too, and she makes the rest of us look bad!  Maybe that's what she is used to, but she really needs to wake up before she gets her feelings hurt along with anyone else who seems to be racist!

I'm in business in southern il with a pop. of approx. 8,000 (half african american ).
I know of 2 stylist who are license that do hair in their homes and none in the surrounduing town.
I & the other "white" salon have very few african american clients. Most do each others hair at home or go to St louis  which is about 1&1/2hrs away. I would be happy do anyone.
