Hello all furbabies and parents,
Thought I would up date everyone on Sir Cookie Bear "Copper"(6yrs.old).  He was diagnosed back in Jan . 31, 2008 as having lymphoma cancer.  He was given 3 -6 months. Today is October 5, 2008 and he is still with us.  We choose not to do chemo there was a 50/50 chance and we have been our odds.  Dr. B had diagnosed 3 other animals with the same cancer as Copper.  They all passed away in 3 - 5 months and they took Chemo!!!  I think we made the right choice.  He has gone down in the last month, he has lost about 4 lbs..  He started out weighing 18 lbs., we took him to the vet Monday due to him being so bad, he was eating, drinking take medicines, etc..  They weight him he weighs 14.5 lbs.  Copper was given two shots one for pain the other for his cancer.  He came back home and was his old self, playing, eating, etc... Today we can see that he is going back down, the shots are to hold him for 7 - 10 days.  The vet said he was to alert and would not put him to sleep.  Of course, when Copp got to the vet's office he was in everything just like he always is, so the vet said he wasn't ready to leave us just yet.  He isn't in pain, he will go in and out of the house and play with the cats outside.  We won't let him suffer and we have made that very clear to our vet, he agrees.
Everyone please keep close eye on your babies, this is where you need to check for any knots on the lil ones- under their mouth, on front of the chest, behind each leg, on the inside of the back legs.  lymphoma cancer is a very aggressive type of cancer and can take over in days.  I check any dog that I come in contact with, I always will after all that Copper has been thru.  Everyone take care and keep us in your prayers and thanks for all the emails that you have sent us through all this.

Hugs to all,
Bow and Copper

Geees, why are so many dogs coming up with this terrible disease??? Is it something in the foods thay are eating?
A dear friend of mine has a tiny 4 pound pom that has it. Started , just a little spot on his lip.
The vet said it would kill him. I let her breed two of my pom females to him, so she can get some of his line before he passes.
She also chose not to put him through all the chemo, as the vet said that would make him very sick, and he is soo tiny his little body probably couldn't stand it.
Right now he is still feeling good. but the vet said 6 months at the most.
Will be praying for you and Cooper, and so glad you will not let him suffer.
Wanda

Copper is on steriods 5mg a day form the vet and strangely my chiropractor did a test on me about Copper.  He said that owners show alot of health problems that their pets/animals had, this test showed  that Copp was low on vitamins.  So he gave him vitamins to take twice daily.  But since last Monday Copper hasn't taken them every day.  I can't get him to eat treats or any type of food.  Hot dogs is one of his favorite treats when he is good for bath time, etc....  He only gets at certain times.
I have heard of alot of animals here in our county that have bladder cancer.  They pass away with in WEEKS.  I didn't know dogs had cancer until we found out about Copp then it seems everyone knows someone that has had an animal to pass away due to cancer.   We have got to find a cure in humans and animals!!!!!

Hugs to one and all,
Bow and Copper

Thanks for the update on Cooper.  I am so sorry all of you have to go through this.  I hope he has some quality of life left for quite a while longer.  Remember when the time comes that you won't be "putting him down",  you will be "sending him up"!  I like that expression so much better.  Good luck to all of you and please keep us posted.  Hugs and prayers.  Doris

Well ut has taken me since Monday to give this news to you all.  Sir Cookie Bear "Copper" was "sent up" to furbaby heaven, Monday October 27, 2008.  I  came home from work and he had no control of his kidneys, he was laying in his urine and could only move his eyes.  I knew what had to be done, so I gave him a bath, blow dryed him and called my husband said get home it's time to take Copp to Dr. Billings.  I held him in my arms and had him wrapped in his paw blanket w/ his name on it.  When Dr. Billings saw him he said you have made the right decision, he took him and about 5 minutes Copp was at peace.  That was the hardest thing I have had to do in my 36 yrs. of life.  I told him to wrap him in his blanket and he put him in a body bag.  Dr. Bill was going to put him in the truck seat, but I chose to hold him as I did on the way there.  We went to my mothers and buried him next to his cousin Sheba (Chow Chow)  she has her tombstone w/ her picture and born/ death date with WE LOVE YOU inscribe.  Copper will have a tombstone w/ picture and WE LOVE YOU also.  I feel for anyone that has to go through this, Copper was our child and the house is so empty.  I will have another Shih Tzu and I think Copp would want us to have another.  He brought so much happiness and joy to our lives.  He was the GREATEST Valentine's Day gift from my husband.  I will never take his pictures down, he is our family.  We had a wonderful 6yrs 10mths with him.

WE LOVE YOU COPPER!!!!!!!

I can not stress enough for all to keep close eyes on your babies check daily for any little knot, bump, etc...  Cancer is a aggressive disease, one day nothing and in four days a knot.  PLEASE, PLEASE keep close eyes and hands on our lil ones.

Thanks for all the support from each and everyone of you

Hugs to all
Bowtiegal (Kathy Jo) and Barry

Kath, I am so sorry you lost cooper. I know exactly how you are feeling losing my young Muffin to lymphoma also. I still panic with missy if I feel anything. we did chemo with muffin and it did not help or save her. I do think you gave cooper a better quality of life by not doing chemo. I do titters on missy and do not give her many vaccine. She just turned 4 years old and has not had a shot since her puppy shots. I have done titters all along and her immunities very very high to disease still after 4 years. I think we are over vaccinating our dogs and cats but it is a fine line. I am so very sorry you and cooper had to go through this but you did the right thing and your baby loved you for it. Hugs sincerely, Denise and Missy
