I wanted to share this with everyone. Aveeno is a people's powder for dry itchy skin. So while I was gathering towels and soap for Pipers bath,I saw this Aveeno that I had and thought well it can't hurt to try it.

Usually after a bath Piper would still itch and scratch before she was even dry. Well this time after the Aveeno, she hasn't itched or scratched once. She is sitting in her window seat looking very relaxed and refreshed with no itching or scratching at all.

I have to bath Piper in the kitchen sink, because I am getting too old to bend over a tub or bucket, and so I put 1 teaspoon full of the Aveeno in a kitchen sick that is a little over half full. Now if you have a sink or basin that is large I would use a little more to the water, now of course this is for a small dog,if larger wouldn't hurt to use a little more than a teaspoon.

This is Aveeno's website
And this is what I used

I'll keep everyone updated with this.

I want to make a correction I meant to say Aveeno is a bath powder for bath water. I previously said it was a powder for dry itchy skin, well it is but it is a bath powder you put in the water.

Sorry about that. by the way still no itching and it's been almost an hour after her bath.

An update: I want to let everyone know that the Aveeno greatly reduced Piper's scratching and itching. She does very little scratching and itching now. Her skin is not so inflammed like it was looking before I used Aveeno. Her skin looks more healthy now.

Hi I just wanted to tell you the dry itchy red skin could be bacterial yeast on the skin. My other pup had very dry skin and scratched alot. the vet put her on 3-V caps they are called and her skin and coat were beautiful after a short time. the itching compley stopped. He also told me to many baths can be a cause and to use an oatmeal shampoo and conditioner. when Muffin was diognessed with lymphoma and was being treated she developed a bacterial yeast infection on her skin . It was not from the cancer. The vet did not know what it was but i took her to a dermatologist and they treated it right away and it cleared right up. You could have something like that. I had Muffin on Iams at the time. she died in 2004 but with missy I have her oh better food I think and her coat and skin are much better no problems. so you may want to see a dermatologist or ask the vet but I think they need too do a scraping on the skin just a small spot and check it unde a microscope. take care sincerely, Denise and Missy

I want to update everyone on this itching problem my baby had and still has well I asked our son who while going to high school worked at a vets as a vet tech and asked him what did the vet do for this problem and he said that mostly he told them it was a change in diet that caused this itching problem.

I met this lady in a store and she said that is what she did she changed her pet's food and the itching went away. She said that there is something in the new food that I was giving Piper that is missing that the other food had. Her original diet when I adopted her was mighty dog,and I had switched her to Eagle Pac. Now I have her back on mighty dog.

So I thought this does make sense because when I adopted Piper she had no skin problems. So I changed her back to her food she was on when I adopted her. Now she still itches but not as much, and her hair is growing back in.  But not as fast as I would like it to.

So I searched online and found this discussion about yeast infection's and yes missys-mom I believe your right about the itching stemming from a yeast infection.

Here is the discussion http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf16991741.tip.html I am going to try the vaseline and yogurt treatments and start using the oatmeal shampoo as well.

I will update everyone on how this all goes.

I took piper to the vet and she took a scrapping of her skin and I also brought in her feces to be screened and i am waiting for the results.

I think your right missys-mom because that is what it looks like a yeast infection with yellow and white scabs is what it looks like.

Piper is on two anitbiotic's and medicated shampoo called Malaseb twice a week till gone. I think I am going to bath her with head and shoulders after the medicated baths with Malaseb. Her skin is improving is softer not warm to the touch.

They say and my neighbor recommended it that head and shoulders kills bacteria and fungus. Imagine that.

missys-mom are you talking about a  people dermatologist? and what did they treat it with? What type of food do you have Missy on?
