My 16 yr old cocker, Murphy has a small cyst on the top of her head and max, my shih tzu is constantly licking it. Murphy just lays there and lets him do it. Any one know why Max does this?

a cyst is a closed  pocket or pouch of tissue.  It can be filled with air, fluid, PUS, or other material.

Cysts are common on the skin.  They develop as a result of infection, clogging of sebaceous glands, or around foreign materials.

Maybe your vet should see if the cysts needs to be drained.  Max might could smell the pus, and is licking the cyst for that reason.

Hi I had a cat that had a cyst once and the vet said it would not hurt her but it was on the top of her head. I had it taken off and she was like a kitten so it must have felt better to have it gone. It might feel good for it to be licked. I would think about having this drained or removed. Denise
