We have an 8 week on Shih Tzu and she has crusty matter built up in the inner corner of her eyes.  Any suggestions on cleaning this area?

I get it wet first....then comb it out....if its very wet and mushy it won't pull at the hair.

Crikey, I can't pin Sid down to wet his crusty eyes, never mind brush them out!  I tend to just try and soak his face when we bath him so they come out then.  He's just been cut though so not sure how often he'll need bathing now.

Sid is SO cute!!!!!  I love that pic!  I use makeup remover pads instead of cotton balls because I worry about the fuzz getting in the eyes.  Be sure to use sterile water... I prefer contact cleaning solution which is safe for the eyes.  If you can hold his beard with one hand under his chin and wipe each day...he will get used to it and not be so wiggly.

You can help your pup get used to having you touch his face by touching him often when you give him affection.  Rub the hair down on each side of his nose, stroke his forhead, chin and do lots of touching and soon he won't mind you touching his face to clean it.

I use clean cloths, water and if it is really bad a drop of baby shampoo.  If you get the crusties wet first, they will soften up and come out much easier.

LuLu drinks from the bottom of her water bowl, and she gets her beard in her food so she gets her face washed after eating.

The more often that you do it, the sooner that your pup will get used to it.
