Please - No usage of Comissioned Artwork

Can I use your art on my webpage?

Sure! As long as it is a non-profit page, and you follow the following guidelines:
If the image states that it is copyrighted to a third party (such as those who have commissioned Stephanie to paint one of their own original characters), you cannot use that art without contacting the copyright holder. The right to use these images is, in these cases, no longer ours to give.
  • In these cases, when the image is copyrighted to a third party, after you have their permission to use the image, please ensure that you write "Art by Stephanie Shimerdla" in reference to the image along with any wishes that the third party holds for the copyright.
  • If the image is not copyrighted to a third party, you need contact no one, and need only put a "© Stephanie Shimerdla" on that page.
  • Please don't link directly to the images. Download them and by right clicking on them, and then upload them to your own server.
If you do use some of Stephanie's artwork on your non-profit webpages, it would be appreciated greatly if you would put link back to us! You can link to http://www.obsidiandawn.com or use one of the banners created for just such a purpose. This is not, however, required.

Can I use one of your images for creating my own signature tags, tubes, etc.?

Sure! As long as it is for non-profit, you can do so without needing to contact us at all. We would love to see what you create using Stephanie's images, however - so feel free to
email us a link to your website or the tags themselves. If it will be for profit in some manner, email [email protected] and we can discuss any possibilities of its usage.

  • Please ensure that "© Stephanie Shimerdla" can be found somewhere on the tag. Additionally, the URL of this website found somewhere on the tag/tube would be ideal. That way, when others see it and like it, they know where to find the original image from which it was made!
Can I use one of your images for anything else, such as one of my roleplaying characters?

You're more than welcome to, yes. As long as it is for non-profit, you can do so without needing to contact me at all. If it will be for profit in some manner, email
[email protected] and we can discuss any possibilities of its usage.

Why the name "Obsidian Dawn"? Is there some meaning to it?

Why, yes there is, and thank you for asking!

A good deal of Stephanie's early artwork was experimentations in lighting, particularly dealing with the contrasting elements of light and dark. Therefore, while racking her brain over a website name, Stephanie began looking up synonyms for "light" and "dark". After a bit of artful rearranging to see what sounded best, "Obsidian Dawn" was born!

Who designed and put together this website?

Stephanie Shimerdla (the artist)

Will you design my website for me?

Due to the amount of time involved, Stephanie cannot design your website for free. She is, however, willing to put together the graphics and layout for you at a very reasonable price.
Contact us for further information.

Do you write the poetry that accompanies some of your artwork?

Yes, the poetry that can be found along with some of Stephanie's pieces is also written by her. It is also copyrighted.

What medium do you use for these, and if I commission you to do an image of my pet, character, or idea and want it printed out, what sizes can I get?

Most of the work on these pages is done in Photoshop. Stephanie is currently in the midst of branching out into acrylics, charcoal, graphite, and prismacolor colored pencils. Be on the lookout for some examples of these in the near future, so that you'll have a way of judging what medium you would like to request for your own commission! Sizes are quite negotiable. Anything done in Photoshop can be printed out all the way up to poster size. For more info or a request, simply email us or check out the
store.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept any form of payment, but (for now) it must be done through Paypal. If you would rather not pay in this manner, contact us at
[email protected] and we'll see what can be worked out. For more information on purchasing a print or commissioning Stephanie to paint a specific image that you have in mind, check out the store. It is there that you will find a link to Paypal for purchases, as well.

How long does it take you to make one of these?

You know, it really depends on the complexity of the image. Most of them tend to take Stephanie somewhere around 15-50 hours.

Do you have a way to notify me of updates?

We most certainly do! Join the Obsidian Dawn
mailing list and you will be updated of all new pieces added, as well as any significant changes. Your email will remain absolutely confidential, you will only be sent ONE email per update, and your email address will NEVER be given out to any third parties. Click here to join!

Any other questions?

Email me at
[email protected] and I'll get back with you as soon as possible!
