I figure this definately belongs in the Good News section lol I had a stress test yesterday and was quite concerned prior to it that it would be disasterous but alas, I am still here. I have, for the past 16 years or so had severe chest pains on and off that I have attended the ER for on numerous ocassions. We suspected that it was the old fibro doin it's thing but each time I was checked out just to "be safe". Now, I've just surmounted the "40" mark and there seems to be some concern. My father died of a heart attack at the age of 34? or so and I am overweight (like most fibros I hear) and (don't hurt me) I'm a smoker. Self destructive personality I say. Anyhow, I guess cause of all that they decided to check me out. I'm good to go, just the fibro (sometimes it's a relief to hear that). Was sweating a blue streak and sore from gripping that bar so I didn't slide off lol. I guess my office manager chiming in about a collegue of hers having a heart attack while doing the stress test didn't help either :( Does anybody else out there have severe chest pain? Have you been in to the ER figuring you're having a heart attack? Do you also have a (could be) unfounded fear of death? Am I screwed up? or am I "normal"? LOL Thanks for listening :) Hugs to you all Babs |

Hi Babs,
My mom died from a heart attak when she was 44 years old. I'm now 49, and I think when we've had a close family member pass away, our minds give it different attention.

Hi Summer, I have had unexplainable chest pain, and I just happened to have shortness of breath at the same time which I later found out was due to my inability to absorb vitamin B. The chest pain was of course blamed on the fibro after tests came back negative. Prior to this incident I had several incidents of chest pain that were looked at as "all in my head" if you know what I mean. I think in your case that because your father was so young, and died from a heart attack that you need to be especially careful. Heart disease is the number 1 killer of women, especially when smoking is an issue. I smoked for manyyears right now I have not smoked in 6 mos., I have quit several times so I know how hard it is. I don't think that your concerns are abnormal, chest pain is just that it needs to be investigated each time it occurs. I hope that I have helped....................Hugs, Tish |
