The rheumatologist I saw said that my leg problems I have had since I was an infant may have been a "precursor" condition to fibromyalgia. I have never heard of fibro having a pre-condition. Anyone seen anything information about this? |

Yes I know what a precursor is because it's the reason I've got fibro . I was hit by a drunk driver while on the back of my brothers motorcycle a week after i had my oldest daughter . I was 17 at the time . I found out I had fibro in 96 fifteen years after the orginal trauma !!! My doctor said fibro can be handed down then it becomes active after a severe trauma like a car crash or a blow to the head ... I guess back in 81 the doctors didn't know to much because I suffered for over 15 years and did not know what was happening to me ! Hope this has helped ... |

I never heard a precursor but I know that other conditions cause leg problems, even from childhood. Why doesn't the dr. investigate those? |

Various doctors have ruled out a lot of things. There's only one or two I know of that they haven't checked into, but no one even takes those seriously coming from me. One main concern I have is that exercise is recommended for fibro and such, but some conditions are actually made worse by exercise. |

I also have hypothyroidism...this, among others conditions, is a precurser to fibromyalgia. As far as exercise goes, if I exercise first thing in the morning, I usually have a good day...little or no pain; if I exercise at the end of the day, after I may already be in pain, the pain either goes away or lessens within a half hour...but it's a hard half hour! I think the kind of exercise is what's important. I do a lot of yoga type stretching...pilates is prob. great.... then some weight training (if fibromyalgia weakens muscles, strengthen them) and some cardio, like walking, biking. If anything, I would say that not moving...sitting or lying down...causes me the most pain (which doesn't help the sleep benefit). Helpful? |

hey my Dr. said that it comes from continuos repetitive trauma, such as you have described,I figure mine was caused from 10 yrs of regular beatings from my ex,and the falls I have had because of it trauma to the body no matter what the cause can bring this on |

Yes, Spirit, I believe precursors to fibro are possible. These are the things that possilbly lead to fibro in myself: - Rabies injections
- near death experience
- hepatitis B
Anything that upsets the body in a harmful way, I believe, could cause it. As a child I suffered from regular night pains in my legs, as well. These were never diagnosed; nobody takes me seriously either.... mary |
