Helen joined Smiling Oct. 18, 2004. She has had a stroke and was looking for a good support group. We are lucky she found and joined our family :) She has three sons that are grown and in their own flats. She sees two often :) She enjoys going out for meals with them :) She also has 3 grandchildren that she doesn't get to see :( How sad that they are missing out on such a wonderful Grandma!
She enjoys writing, which we have had the luck of reading some of, reading, listening to music and her sons :)
She has survived strokes and brain surgery. She is so lucky to have a wonderful best friend/fiancée/hero, Joe who has been by her side through it all. They are planning their wedding for April 2005! Can’t wait to hear all the details :) She says she doesn’t know what she would do without Joe. I have a feeling that is a two way road. :) He always puts her first over everyone and thing :)
Her favorite movie is “Imitation of Life?it is a very emotional movie that has brought Helen to tears. It is about a young girl whose mother is black and she denies her as her mother. It is about denying your background and who you are. Maybe we should watch the movie and have a discussion on it :)
The food she used to like the best were trifles but due to swallowing trouble she has switched to fresh cream :)
One thing she would like others to know about her is she is slow but not stupid, oh how we understand that!!! She wants to thank the family for welcoming her with open arms. It means a lot to her. What makes her made is when she is out with Joe; friends will stop and ask Joe how she is doing with her right there!!! We need to set up a chat to discuss this!
Well, be sure to chat with Helen when you see her online :)
