Ok, to all the wise ones out there, I have a question. About ten days ago I fell outside and landed my knee on a rock and bent my toe back. The pain was so intense that it took me a good while laying on the ground before the pain was at a level that I could crawl back to my wheelchair. I thought I had surely broken my knee, but within an hour the pain subsided and although it swelled a bit, I considered myself lucky. But since then my knee pops out often and the pain is again, intense. So I went to the doctor and had the knee and the toe x-rayed. My doctor came in and told me that nothing showed on the x-rays and that it was "just part of the progression of fibromyalgia." I told him, "But I have tried very hard to walk around everyday so that my legs do not atrophy. I vacuume the house and pull weeds." He said that I was probably making it worse by doing these things. "That is how you got injured and it takes a very long time to heal. So I suggest you stop doing it." First, is it now definitely a "progressive" disease? I heard rumors to that, but does my doctor know something I don't know? Secondly, if it is progressive, what do I have to look forward to in the way of progression? Thirdly, should I now contact Social Security and tell them I need help around the house and yard? Let me know what you think. Crinkle |

Hard questions.... as for progressive....most Dr.s wont say tht because the medical meaning of progressive is it ends in death. This doesn't kill us but does sure make life hard. I know for me fibro started with some pain in my hands now the pain is all over and as affected every single part of my life. As for help with you house and yard :) Cool if they will give it to why not then you can save yourself to do other stuff :) Great idea I think I will call and see if I can get some help too :) :) |

Those ARE tough questions. My advice on the wording of certain things is take them with a grain of salt. Has anyone seen Sum of All Fears?? (Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman) They make the hugest mistake in there, and I'm so supprised that no one but me has caught it! At one point a bomb goes off, and they say the people suffer from symptoms that mimic "acute, late stage cerebral palsy." ROFL...CP has no stages, nor can you have "acute" CP...This just shows me how ignorant smart people are!! ~Niddy |

Ouch! I am not a doctor, but any wack on the knee is painful; and your doctor needs a smack. How can an accident be related to fm in the same week it happened? It takes years for fm to develope after a whack or whatever. I would get a second opinion...for sure. And get help around the house, too, from the government. You are in a wheelchair and still have no help? I suggest you get on it and push for some help. Good luck, Crinkle! I be praying for ya!! mary |

If you have a SSD application in process, definitely contact them with any changes. Or if you have an attorney helping, contact them about it. |

To all of you who replied to this question, thanks very much! Now for what happened a few days after the doctor visit. I got a phone call from the doctor's office. It turned out that my toe was broken! And there was arthritis in my knee. So it was not the fibro progressing quickly! Silly doctor! Now I have my toes taped together for six weeks and I walk even funnier than I did. ha! (I have a Frankinstein walk with a limp!) You just gotta laugh at yourself sometimes. Right? Crinkle |
