Do you know the limit of your endurance?
One thing that makes it so difficult to experience empathy for another is how we measure endurance. Whether it be pain tolerance, fatigue resistance, etc., it is hard to accurately relate to what another person truly deals with given the same situation.

One person may break a leg and still find the endurance it takes to run. Another with the same break may find a single step beyond what they can endure.

One runner may run till they are gasping for breath and claim they can run no more. Another may run till they fall unconscious, or till their heart bursts.

Most of us have stated at some point that a particular task is something we can't do. Often, the reality is simply that we couldn't do it and remain within the boundaries of what we are willing to go through.

Have you ever reached the true limit of your endurance?

How much of endurance is physical: my arms are too short, my bones are brittle, I have arthritis. How much is mental: mind over matter, giving up is not an option, one more step. How much is determined by need, by fear, by faith?

Let's talk.

Good question!
I always think I have lost my ablity to care since I have been hurt so much by those I have loved so completely.  But then I find I am still opening my heart.

I have reached my limit with being hurt by a few people that are supposed to be part of my support system.  I do not hold anything at all of them.  Can't even find good memories.

I am a firm believer that most of the time, ignorance is bliss. Let me explain. If you have only one hand and you want to play the piano for a living and nobody told you that it was impossible. You would probably become the best damn piano player on this earth!. It was Joanne Worley that once said. "Never listen to the experts. They will only tell you it can't be done."  And another one similiar. "For every dream there will be 100 people trying to push you away from your dream."  So what is our limits? Usually other people. Endurance is something you have when you only listen to your own voice and reach for the probable.  Nothing is impossible.  Wow! Did I say that?!! Must be the meds. hehehe

I agree, I have a hard time figuring the event into the endurance I need I find I just figure the travel time and that is not good :(

So does endurance determine the event, or does the event determine endurance?

'Some of you may remember-(and Blu I dont want to hear it)- I was stuck in the mountains last winter for like 36 hours. No food-we melted snow and drank it- I ended up walking out to a road-the walk was 8 miles. Before that I would have laughed if someone had told me I could walk 8 miles. I had no choice so I did what I had to do.(it was a blast) I find that often applies. I can do what ever I need to--most of the time I choose to keep my pain level down so I do what keeps me comfortable. However--since the mountain thing I have tried bowling again-I could do it-I started fishing again-I can do it-alot of these I just knew I couldnt do because the pain would be too bad. Bowling I knew would kill me-heck it wasnt even that bad (the pain) I was afraid to try-afraid of the pain. I am not afraid of it any longer and it has made my life much easier.           Hugs-Jazzy

So how much of physical endurance is determined by emotion/mental?

If we didn't have those mental barriers, could we then find our true physical endurance limit? Perhaps then the only limit would be a state of unconsciousness.
