Hi Girls,

I tested out a Wilkinson Quattro today.

You may have read that Sarah prefers a Gillette Mach 3 Turbo and to be honest the only three blade I've tried up to now has been a Bic disposable, which didn't do much for me. I also fell upon BJ's site today and she goes with the Gillette plus lots of fancy stuff. So no comparisons, just a commentary on how it was for me .

I let my stubble acquire 36 hours growth. Using Simple Shave Foam, I shaved with the hair direction: no blocking of louvres, which after 36 hours growth would tend to happen with a Contour Plus . It felt good and close, but the stubble could be rasped running a hand backwards against the direction of growth. "Eeek! Dare I?" I thought .... well it was a road test, so I ran the Quattro back up against the stubble - Wow! All gone and no blood! Washed off and nowt else (not even a gentle massaging with old chip fat).

An hour later I was in the black chair at Barbie's. She reckoned it had done a good job. 10 hours later and it still feels like I've just shaved with my normal blade. Waiting for shaving rash tomorrow, but I am actually very impressed. Obviously I can't compare with a Mach 3.

Cautionary notes: I have a relatively light, if tough beard, heavier beards may not fare so well. I have a sensitive skin, so I DID NOT reverse shave near my mouth, particularly the sides of the upper lip- that almost always causes bleeding. The bladehead is huge (lawnmower size almost) so another razor is useful for the nooks and crannies.

At £6.49 for the razor and two blades, it's not cheap, but so long as the face holds together tomorrow (I'll report if it doesn't) I'll use it before making up.

Nikki

Can't help on the hair removal system, Nat, but just to round off  my Quattro trial: the next morning (20 hours after shaving) there were no problems - the skin felt slightly tender, but it always does after a two-way shave (it's a pretty  effective defoliaton method) and the stubble was remarkably less than normal - almost too little to redo before a day with the punters (oops, clients).

Now, if I had the money to buy the company ..... yes, it was that impressive to someone coming from a two blade system.

Of course, if Sarah's right about a 15 blade razor, that might be worth hanging on for, or should I just go straight to the cheese grater!
