Amazing Women of the Civil War by Webb Garrison.

I just finished this book. When I got to the chapter on Robert E' Lee's wife I
know for a fact most of what he wrote was false. Many thing's were bad speculation
that he had no way of knowing. One example of his bad information (not Southern or northern biased) is at Lee's wedding he stated that the groomesmen game from nearby  Ft. Monroe. Well Arlington House, where the wedding was , today is
200 miles away from Ft. Monroe.
He goes on to say that Mary Custus Lee was an ugly, tempered, woman, and that
Lee cheated on her throughout their marriage. And that Robert E Lee married her
for her money. Then states that after the war Lee lived in poverty in Lexington.
Then states that upon their death they were buried in a vault with just a plain
slab with their name on it.
These things could be no further from the truth.
I wonder how far off the rest of his book is?

Confedup, This is another attack on our people and our heritage. Have you read "Lee: The Abridgment" by Douglas Southall Freeman? It is Lee's biography. After the War of Northern Aggression, Lee became President of Washington College in Lexington, Virginia. Page 557. Lee had SAVED MONEY all of his life. "He was so successful in his thrift and invested wisely in good securties. Never so poor a man as he was supposed to be after the war, he died worth some $88,000."  At that point in time, there was NO railroad service in Lexington. The nearest railroad connection was in Goshen, which was twenty three miles away. Lee's gave his active support to The Valley Railroad Company. The Baltimore and Ohio was interested in the area. He went to Baltimore with a delegation to meet with officials of the company. They finally got a railroad connection. It helped the college, the town, and the area. Teresa

I can prove many lies in this book to be wrong. One lie is about the way they
were buried. Does this look like just a slab with a name on it.

Does this shrine to the Robert E. Lee family look like just a slab with a name on it.
It was built to honor the Lee family. They are buried inside there.  ......

Confedup, This is in response to your post  # 3 and 4. The answer to both questions is NO. I agree with you. It is another attack on our: people, culture, history, and heritage. The Founding Fathers, many of them are Southerners, are also under attack. Teresa

Rebel, I got my B.A. degree in Politicial Science. Do you know what you will do with a Politicial Science major? There are not very many jobs in it. I went into Dataa Processing. I would recommend that you either get a double major or a very strong minor in something like business or computer science/data processing. Just a few tips that might help you someday.  Teresa

Rebel Washington &Lee looks to be a pretty good school. The town of
Lexington is really a neat town. Very historical place. I went to school about 60
miles from there. I love the area.

Greystarfish

I too got a BA in Political Science.  First I used it to springboard into law school.  Finding it not to my liking.  I springboarded into Urban and Regional Planning and got a Masters and have worked for the last 25 years in the field.

Now I am getting my PHD in Political Science so that I can teach college level classes.

Dsrtmaiden1,   In 1979, when I got my BA in Political Science, I was interested in Law, Public Administration or Planning. Sadly, these fields closed up, by the time that I graduated from college. I went into Data Processing and that is where I am today.
"Now I am getting my PHD in Political Science so that I can teach college level classes." There is still a surplus of teachers. If there were job openings in History and Political Science, then I would look at it.  I do not see that scene, changing anytime soon. Teresa
